Light fare for Christmas
Revisado: 12-05-24
I like the fairy tale element of many of the stories. They are creative, but somehow lack depth. Although the ghost stories are interesting, I wasn’t drawn in enough to be scared. The short stories with mainly one character are a bit flat. Maybe I was expecting too much…

Intriguing insights into English
Revisado: 07-21-22
Although I read some discouraging reviews from some readers, I think they failed to give the book a chance to shine. Yes, Curzan sometimes leaves a gap between sentences. I found her voice kept me awake and focused on the subject at hand. She's an instructor, not a professional reader. The material is nicely organized to keep your interest. This could easily be a boring course. Curzan selected examples that explore the breadth of language and its use by many groups of people. She talks about her topic from various speaker's angles. This is an incredibly thoughtful and insightful course that is oriented to any English speaker who wants to deepen their understanding of English and how language evolves.

Great insights lacking acceptance of human nature
Revisado: 10-29-14
Is there anything you would change about this book?
I would attempt to bring the factual in line with a worldview that is accepting of human nature and our lack of foresight.
Who was your favorite character and why?
The narrator was excellent and seemed genuine.
What about Antony Ferguson’s performance did you like?
I felt like he was the writer and was very taken in by his performance.
Did The Great Disruption inspire you to do anything?
Not really. I feel like it laid a foundation for understanding the climate crisis and will lead to something I will do in the future.
