Historia
Hillbilly Elegy is a passionate and personal analysis of a culture in crisis - that of white working-class Americans. The decline of this group, a demographic of our country that has been slowly disintegrating over 40 years, has been reported on with growing frequency and alarm but has never before been written about as searingly from the inside. J. D. Vance tells the true story of what a social, regional, and class decline feels like when you were born with it hung around your neck.

I’m glad to know more about the background that built JD Vance. Well-written!
Note- There is a lot of unfiltered cursing, so it’s not a good fit for everyone.

Historia
We live in a world that’s obsessed with talent. We celebrate gifted students in school, natural athletes in sports, and child prodigies in music. But admiring people who start out with innate advantages leads us to overlook the distance we ourselves can travel. We underestimate the range of skills that we can learn and how good we can become. We can all improve at improving. And when opportunity doesn’t knock, there are ways to build a door.

The author was pleasant to listen to, and I appreciated the additional audio cast. The book itself was well done with the information being presented in a way that was easily relatable and applicable.

The Earth teems with sights and textures, sounds and vibrations, smells and tastes, electric and magnetic fields. But every kind of animal, including humans, is enclosed within its own unique sensory bubble, perceiving but a tiny sliver of our immense world. In An Immense World, Ed Yong coaxes us beyond the confines of our own senses, allowing us to perceive the skeins of scent, waves of electromagnetism, and pulses of pressure that surround us.

Historia
"Who am I becoming?" That was the question nagging pastor and author John Mark Comer. Outwardly, he appeared successful. But inwardly, things weren’t pretty. So, he turned to a trusted mentor for guidance and heard these words: "Ruthlessly eliminate hurry from your life. Hurry is the great enemy of the spiritual life." It wasn’t the response he expected, but it was - and continues to be - the answer he needs. Within this audiobook, you’ll find a fascinating road map to staying emotionally healthy and spiritually alive in the chaos of the modern world.

Wits Guts Grit is inspired by the many what-if questions acclaimed science writer and mother of two Jena Pincott asked herself as research on the invisible forces that shape our minds and health has emerged and grown over the past decade. What if we identify the microbes that support stress resilience, find ways to expose our kids to them, and then test them?

This book is an absolute must read! It has so many incredibly important points that every parent should have. I am buying multiple copies of this book and passing them out to my friends with kids! It’s great for adults also. Can’t say enough good things about it. The narrator is also one of the best I’ve heard!

Deep and wracked with opinion
Revisado: 04-28-21
Read this book at the advice of a friend. It requires a focused mind and openness. There are opinions of the author in nearly every sentence. The narrator could have been better. I found his cadence choppy. Overall, the book was interesting.

Historia
Today's inequality is on a scale that none of us has seen in our lifetimes, yet this disparity between rich and poor has ramifications that extend far beyond mere financial means. In The Broken Ladder, psychologist Keith Payne examines how inequality divides us not just economically, but also has profound consequences for how we think, how our cardiovascular systems respond to stress, how our immune systems function, and how we view moral ideas such as justice and fairness.

Historia
The hardscrabble folks of Troublesome Creek have to scrap for everything - everything except books, that is. Thanks to Roosevelt's Kentucky Pack Horse Library Project, Troublesome's got its very own traveling librarian, Cussy Mary Carter. Cussy's not only a book woman, however, she's also the last of her kind, her skin a shade of blue unlike most anyone else. Not everyone is keen on Cussy's family or the Library Project, and a Blue is often blamed for any whiff of trouble.

Revisado: 08-15-20
This book will likely intrigue those who want to learn about wartime battles or the movement against slavery.I have a degree in history, and the information was as accurate as one can get in a novel. I found it included a lot of details that weren’t pertinent to the storyline, and I do feel it could have been told in about half the time.
