Amazing story
Revisado: 03-15-23
A fascinating trip through the world’s problem spots over decades. I was in some of these places but learned much from this telling. Those areas where all I knew were headlines were filled in with both stories of the people on the ground and those in the policy centers.

Historia
Amos Decker's life changed forever - twice. The first time was on the gridiron. A big, towering athlete, he was the only person from his hometown of Burlington ever to go pro. But his career ended before it had a chance to begin. On his very first play, a violent helmet-to-helmet collision knocked him off the field for good and left him with an improbable side effect - he can never forget anything.

Huge Disappointment
Revisado: 08-28-20
So much potential, so much disappointment!
I love listening to a great performance of a great book, but of course, some are better than others. Sometimes with an audio book you think, "This book wasn't great, but the narrator really made it work." Other times you think, "I want to read this book myself, because this performance really does the book an injustice." This audio book had ZERO redeeming qualities.
Tedious performances with very distracting editing. Sudden random soundtrack and sound effects in one part were also very distracting. Extremely disappointing and unbelievable story with insane amounts of rare conditions, bizarre connections, unlikely situations, and ridiculousness thinly disguised as plot twists, all tied up at the end with a really big, really stupid bow.
I generally read 4-5 books a week, and listen to another 1 or 2 a week. That's A LOT of books, and of course, some are better than others. This is one of the worst books I've consumed in a very, very, very long time.

Historia
The Lost Colony of the Confederacy is the story of a grim, quixotic journey of 20,000 Confederates to Brazil at the end of the American Civil War. Although it is not known how many Confederates migrated to South America - estimates range from 8,000 to 40,000 - their departure was fueled by bitterness over a lost cause and a distaste for an oppressive victor. Encouraged by Emperor Dom Pedro, most of these exiles settled in Brazil.

Would have been better in print
Revisado: 06-05-19
I thought the story itself was quite interesting. The delivery, however, was quite flat, and the unnecessarily horrible mutilation of the Portuguese was cringe-worthy and distracting.

Historia
A gifted storyteller and spiritual director, Father James Martin, SJ, invites listeners to experience the stories of the Gospels in a completely new, vivid, and exciting way to gain a deeper understanding of Jesus. Moving sequentially through the Gospels, considering not only familiar passages but also the "hidden life" of Jesus, the book offers a bold retelling of the life of Christ, faithful to the Christian tradition, while meditating on parts of the narrative that have often escaped notice.

A real audio pilgrimage!
Revisado: 04-25-17
I recently returned from my own pilgrimage to the Holy Land. This book enabled me to relive each place we visited, and I loved how often Fr. Martin's experiences and emotions mirrored my own. This book also caused me to examine the so familiar Gospels more carefully, and with fresh insights, and left me with so much to contemplate and pray on. I loved this book, and hated to reach the end!

Historia
After a showdown with the notorious Yemeni terrorist known as The Panther, John Corey has left the Anti-Terrorist Task Force and returned home to New York City, taking a job with the Diplomatic Surveillance Group. Although Corey's new assignment with the DSG - surveilling Russian diplomats working at the UN Mission - is thought to be "a quiet end", he is more than happy to be out from under the thumb of the FBI and free from the bureaucracy of office life.

Scott Brick + John Corey = WIN!
Revisado: 06-25-15
I'm a huge DeMille fan, and John Corey is one of my favorite literary characters. Add Scott Brick's always-awesome performance, and you know it's going to be great! This book, like all the others, was riveting, and the evil Russians were a nice change from Islamic terrorists. And now I can rest easy knowing that my hero has once again saved the day!
