The incredible, hilarious, devastating, touching, delirious, mind-f*cking 2nd book of the Locked Tomb trilogy.

Historia
The Shadow of the Torturer is the first volume in the four-volume epic, the tale of a young Severian, an apprentice to the Guild of Torturers on the world called Urth, exiled for committing the ultimate sin of his profession - showing mercy towards his victim.
Gene Wolfe's "The Book of the New Sun" is one of speculative fiction's most-honored series. In a 1998 poll, Locus Magazine rated the series behind only "The Lord of the Rings" and The Hobbit as the greatest fantasy work of all time.

Classic Sci-fi I didn't know I needed
Revisado: 12-05-20
This book gave me everything I needed out of it. Esoteric cults, Dying Earth feels, Decadence, Adventure, and a heavy dose of the strange. A fever dream from the distant future.

Historia
Tamsyn Muir’s Gideon the Ninth unveils a solar system of swordplay, cut-throat politics, and lesbian necromancers. Her characters leap out of the audio, as skillfully animated as arcane revenants. The result is a heart-pounding epic science fantasy. Brought up by unfriendly, ossifying nuns, ancient retainers, and countless skeletons, Gideon is ready to abandon a life of servitude and an afterlife as a reanimated corpse.

Fun. Not art, very gory, but 100% fun.

This epic fantasy was a bit of a disappointment.
Revisado: 09-13-19
The pacing is ponderous, the characters rather generic, and the reader of this audiobook used terrible accents for the non-human folks. Maybe I expected too much after hearing about how Memory, Sorrow, and Thorn inspired Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire. I heard it gets better in the next book but I have no excitement or interest in even picking it up.

"I see Gondwane as it shall be in the untold ages of dim futurity, near the time when the Earth shall be man's habitation no more, and the great night shall enfold all, and naught but the cold stars shall reign. The first sign of the end ye shall see in the heavens, for Lo! the moon is falling, falling. And there shall come a man into the lands, a man not like other men, but sent from Galendil."

Dying Earth genre Fantasy with it's own voice
Revisado: 03-14-19
Somewhere between Jack Vance's Dying Earth and Clark Ashton Smith's Zothique stories, though not as dark or pessimistic, with a pinch of Oz and a dash of The Neverending Story. It's not earth shattering but it was definitely a fun journey.
