Historia
In American Oligarchs, award-winning investigative journalist Andrea Bernstein creates a vivid portrait of two emblematic American families. Their journey to the White House is a story of survival and loss, crime and betrayal, which stretches from the Gilded Age through Nazi-occupied Poland to the rising nationalism and inequality of the 21st century. Drawing on hundreds of interviews and over 100,000 pages of documents, many previously unseen or long forgotten, Bernstein traces how the families grew rich on federal programs that bolstered the middle class.

The emblematic foundation of humble beginnings.

I like the typical American rags to riches because rags to riches is so archetypal; but the story is also so typical in a Riana Eisler “dominate/co-operate dynamic where screw or be screwed is the archetypal flavor of the times. But then, if the author is the daughter of the Richard J Bernstein who wrote Beyond Objectivism and Relativism then the whole enterprise mirrors the search for a foundation, a Cartesian Anxiety.

Historia
Evangelical Christians are perhaps the most polarizing—and least understood—people living in America today. In his seminal new book, The Kingdom, the Power, and the Glory, journalist Tim Alberta, himself a practicing Christian and the son of an evangelical pastor, paints an expansive and profoundly troubling portrait of the American evangelical movement.

Historia
Jon Ward's life is divided in half: two decades inside the evangelical Christian bubble and two decades outside of it. In Testimony, Ward tells the engaging story of his upbringing in, and eventual break from, an influential evangelical church in the 1980s and 1990s. Ward sheds light on the evangelical movement's troubling political and cultural dimensions, tracing the ways in which the Jesus People movement was seduced by materialism and other factors to become politically captive rather than prophetic.

I thought Ward’s book was a reflective effort to review his life in the context of a Christian movement. I enjoyed the effort.
