Historia
Detective Sergeant Chris Waters got the call at 05.29 that July morning. This is it, said DCI Reeve, you'll be first there, it's all yours, you're the crime scene manager. Suddenly, after months of waiting and wondering, Waters finds himself in at the deep end, and alone at the scene of a puzzling murder. As the investigation proceeds, the detectives at Kings Lake Central find themselves visiting familiar places and talking to some familiar faces, while old enmities reappear in the incident room. Before this is over, Chris Waters will need to make a career-changing decision.

Family!
Revisado: 10-25-23
These are not your basic mysteries. Yes, somebody gets killed and comes to justice but the bigger part is about the characters. How could Smith possibly be replaced?? (He is, with a new, skilled, quirky woman) How will the characters manage to work together? Smart, snarky, surprising, human characters all the way, all the time. There’s a beautiful appreciation of the land and seascape. It’s one of those series that make me long for the next book and wonder what’s going on along the wash while I’m waiting!! And PERFECT narration. Thank you for the stories of this great family of characters.

Cyrus Barker, along with his former assistant and now partner Thomas Llewelyn, is the premier enquiry agent in all of 19th-century London, and beyond. They've thwarted the designs of villains and crooks off all sorts, helped Scotland Yard crack their most challenging cases, and worked for the Her Majesty's Government at the very highest levels. But nothing has been quite as challenging and dangerous as the latest case that comes to find them.

Thomas and Ferguson and Backer and Llewelyn et al!
Revisado: 09-14-23
I’m sitting here watching my lawn in need of cutting. Don’t care. Vacuuming. Don’t care. Dishes in the sink. Don’t care. I cannot listen to these books sporadically in the car or on a run. Each book grasps my imagination like the claws of Cleopatra’s mummy in The Heart of the Nile. You simply cannot stop writing this series Mr. Thomas and Mr Ferguson cannot stop narrating. You - and each of your characters - are utterly beyond celebration! Thank you.

Could midwinter blues get any worse?
Revisado: 02-19-23
Yup. Mystery and suspense books all have some sadness. This book felt as if it was written specifically to depress the reader from cover to cover. Black Heart. Should have seen that coming.

Historia
When junior barrister Daniel Pitt is summoned to the scene of a murder in the slum area known as Mile End, he knows only that the victim is a senior barrister from his firm. To Daniel's relief, it is not his close friend Toby Kitteridge, but the question remains: What was this respected colleague doing in Mile End? The firm's head, Marcus fford Croft, may know more than he admits, but fford Croft's memory is not what it used to be. And so Daniel and Kitteridge must investigate on their own, lest the police uncover something they should not.

This is a novella but I’d hoped for a more satisfying conclusion. It feels as though there wasn’t time or space to develop the story or characters to completion.

Gaslight mysteries
Revisado: 06-11-22
Mark Meadows is an amazing narrator - sounding like men, children, elite, working class, He can sound loving. Turn from compassionate to snarling. He gives the perfect personality to Cora Harrison’s books. She breathes life into historic characters and events. I am thoroughly disappointed when I rush to see if there’s a new volume and discover that I need another cup of patience. They make a great team.

Historia
One advantage of being caught up in a whirl of dress fittings and decisions about flower arrangements is that Charlotte Sloane has little time for any pre-wedding qualms. Her love for Wrexford isn't in question. But will being a wife - and a countess - make it difficult for her to maintain her independence - not to mention, her secret identity as famed satirical artist A. J. Quill? Despite those concerns, there are soon even more urgent matters to attend to during Charlotte and Wrexford's first public outing as an engaged couple.
