Cthulhu Armageddon goes Noir
Revisado: 04-19-24
I am a big fan of the Cthulhu Armageddon series, and even when this entrance is different in tone and scope, and it has a different narrator, I really enjoyed the book.
The story goes from post-apocalyptic dystopia to noir detective story. We change the landscape and reinforce parts of the lore stablished in the previous 2 books, without erasing what has already happened. I quite like the way Mr. Phipps uses familiar tropes and characters to reinvent the story in a very special corner of his universe.
I think Cary Hite does a great job as the new narrator, and it fits very well the tone of this book. I hope he continues the series.
I will be waiting for the next installment of this saga.

Historia
TALES OF NYARLATHOTEP is the fourth book of the Books of Cthulhu series by Crossroad Press (Tales of the Al-Azif, Tales of Yog-Sothoth, The Book of Yig). It is an anthology featuring pulpy tales of horror starring Outer God and his myriad plots as well as games. Nyarlathotep is functionally omnipotent and treats humanity like ants underneath a magnifying glass. He is impossible to kill but perhaps capable of being thwarted. Or maybe that's just what he wants you to think.

Tales for the followers of The Crawling Chaos
Revisado: 01-07-24
For many years I have enjoyed the Cthulhu Mythos and the different cosmic entities that H. P. Lovecraft and his circle and followers have created. Having that said, I have always have a special predilection for Nyarlathotep, due to the way this deity interacts with humanity.
Tales of Nyarlathotep offers the reader an interesting assortment of stories, from the funnier, to the horrific, passing through the pulpier tales, that highlight the different “faces” of the Black Pharaoh. Some of the tales included in this volume are tied to the literary universes of the authors included in the book, but even if you are not familiar with the adventures of Arthur Doran or the world of Cthulhu Armageddon, the stories are very easy to follow and thoroughly enjoyable.
I had a blast with this volume and I will be patiently waiting for the next installment in this exciting series.

Entertaining story full of Lovecraftian Flavor.
Revisado: 09-18-23
I have read/listen to Lovecraft, I play Call of Cthulhu by Chaosium on a regular basis. I am an avid consumer of Cosmic Horror products and I really enjoyed this audiobook. The authors take the world of H. P. Lovecraft and repackage it for the modern age, including a good dose of action and mystery. I enjoyed all the references to well known Lovecratt's stories and the story kept me entertained the whole time. The audiobook could have been longer due to the amount of ideas present in the tale, and I hope we have the sequel very soon.
If there is something that I did not like, was the pronunciation of some of the Mythos names. I know there is technically no human way to pronounce the names, but the stories have been around for a century, so there are some conventions that the narrator could have used. It did not sound right to me, but this occurrences were minimal.
Overall, a great story that has me wanting more.
Thanks for the ride!

Revisado: 01-22-23
The Space Academy series gets better with each installment. Even when Space Opera is not my favorite genre, Mr. Phipps's dialogue and action scenes got me hooked from the beginning.
I specially loved the climax of the conflict. I would not spoil anything, but way to go using drawbacks as advantages when it counts, Vance!
Give it a listen, Mr. Kaffer kills it again. Worth the credit!

In his mid-20s, Jimmy was bored, boring, unfulfilled and underachieving. He wasn't exactly depressed, but he was very sad. Think of a baby owl whose mum has recently died in a windmill accident. He was that sad. This audiobook tells the story of how Jimmy turned it around and got happy, through the redemptive power of dick jokes.

A great collection of short stories!
Revisado: 12-23-19
I am firm believer that horror shines in short stories and Mr. Mountford’s Nightmare Collection doesn’t disappoint. I thoroughly enjoy every tale. The ones that are connected to his novels enrich the background of the longer works without unveiling all the mystery and the new ones are one-shots (or maybe not...) represent great examples of top shelf horror. And so you know, you don’t need to have listened to any of Mr. Mountford’s previous works to enjoy this collection.
I will be waiting for this author’s next piece of narrative impatiently, but in the meantime, I’ll go back to the novels to connect some dots...

Top Shelf Space Opera
Revisado: 12-13-19
Lucifer's Star is top shelf Space Opera. The story and the narration are exceptional, but Mr. Phipps' prose shines when he is creating deliciously flawed characters. It does not matter where he puts them, it is always easy to feel close to the protagonists. This book is no exception and Cassius will make you feel his loss, duty and responsibility . If you give this series a chance, you will be hooked.
