Historia
When Karen Simmons is murdered on Valentine’s Day, Detective Elise King wonders if she was killed by a man she met online. Karen was all over the dating apps, leading some townspeople to blame her for her own death, while others band together to protest society’s violence against women. Into the divide comes Kiki Nunn, whose aggressive newsgathering once again antagonizes Elise.

Narration Made It Impossible to Continue
Revisado: 01-06-25
I have liked all the other Fiona Barton books, but Jayne Entwhistle as Kiki was so annoying to me that I had to bail out. He inflection is so lazy and wrong that it continually took me out of the book. Buyer beware.

Just Okay
Revisado: 09-22-24
I am making myself finish this audiobook. I think my problem with it is that the main character, Wada, is too bland, too undefined. I know that is also her secret power that causes others to underestimate her. However, it makes for a somewhat boring read. I never really got engaged. I am finding this pretty dull.

Love Hallet, but not this one
Revisado: 01-29-24
I really enjoyed The Appeal and The Twyford Code. This book, like those, is a complex listen. There are tons of characters and many moving parts. Patience is definitely required and the complexity is part of the fun of Hallet. However, in this particular book, the payoff did not seem adequate to the work that had to be put in. The earlier parts of Twyford were somewhat disjointed and I felt detached from the characters and wondered if I should go on. I persevered and the story really picked up steam. That did not happen for me in Alperton. I cannot recommend it.
