Outstanding
Revisado: 06-27-24
"The Wolf Queen: The Hope of Aferi," tells the compelling story of Ameenah Yemini, who leads an isolated life on the edge of a forbidden forest. After a journey to sell her merchandise, a soldier is particularly interested in one of Ameenah's items. Soon after, the newly appointed Hir arrives with a handful of soldiers at her home, presumably en route to another destination. The Hir is immediately captivated by Ameenah, though her heart secretly belongs to someone else, feelings she has never dared to express.
Following Hir's visit, which she suspects hides ulterior motives, Ameenah's life unravels. She uncovers secrets about her past, including potential blood ties to the Amasiti, a magical people. As these revelations come to light, Ameenah's quiet existence is thrown into turmoil, setting the stage for an epic tale of self-discovery and adventure.
Tiana Holley did an outstanding job with the narration that brought each character to life.
This is a beautifully written fantasy that Cerece Rennie Murphy has crafted and one of the best books I've read this year. I will definitely get my hands on the sequel. I highly recommend that you read it.

Worth reading
Revisado: 07-27-21
This book had plenty of action, there is an unexpected slow down at some point in the story that readers might find disruptive, but understandable the author didn't want one dimensional characters and wanted to add texture to the main characters and the war torn African nation. The momentum of the story picks up soon afterwards. I wasn't sure how I would feel about War Girls when I started, but I'm glad I gave it a chance.
Be sure to read/listen to the author's note after the conclusion of the story.

Historia
Patience de Verteuil left her home in Trinidad with her father for what she thought would be a short journey to America. Instead, she finds herself embroiled in a struggle between powerful supernatural forces in which an object in her possession means the difference between defeat or victory. The Long Walk is a steamfunk tale that will stay with you long after the final words are read.

Great story
Revisado: 03-19-21
August Snow was a total treat and now I am officially apart of the Stephen Mack Jones fan club. Although the subject matter was dark, Snow’s dry wit and cool character made for an equal balance. What I liked best about Snow was that he saw the best in people, even when they did not see it in themselves. Snow didn’t say, I wished I could have done more, he did more. The book read like a movie where you could picture each scene, the action, characters, writing and pacing well done. I’m looking forward to reading the further adventures of August Snow. Luis Moreno did an outstanding job with the narration which complimented the story perfectly.

Thumbs up
Revisado: 02-20-20
It's nice to know that even in the near future, the world still has old-school PIs solving cases. Cybil Lewis and her partner Jane were hired to find a missing teenager. There are plenty of roadblocks among the way, one being a psychotic killer has his eyes set on Cybil. But things aren't what they seem to be.
I don't want to say much more because it's a mystery and I don't want to spoil the story for anyone. Silenced was entertaining and had me wondering what was going to happen next throughout.
Looking forward to reading more Cybil Lewis novels.

When the famous Bushman exhibit of a lowland gorilla goes missing from Chicago’s Museum of Natural History, no self-respecting Chicago police detective wants the case. So the assignment is pawned off on an "Old Fart Squad" of Dirty Harrys, retirees called back into service and led by the classy Aubrey Hamilton.

Cranky, fun
Revisado: 07-01-19
When retired police detectives are asked to investigate a mystery at the Chicago Museum of Natural History involving a missing gorilla exhibit called Bushman, they were less than enthusiastic to take on the case. A combination of boredom and the prospects of more police work in the future, persuaded them to accept. But that didn’t mean they were happy about it.
They believed with their combined experiences, figuring out what had happened to the missing exhibit would be a piece of cake. As the case starts to unfold, the group of detectives (or the Old Farts Squad as they began calling themselves) quickly finds out that they may have bitten off more than they could chew.
With a mixture of humor, history, and horror, Robert W. Walker has crafted a fun, fast-paced story, blending several genres that’ll hold your attention all the way to the end.
