Historia
In this classic portrait of Dwight D. Eisenhower the soldier, best-selling historian Stephen E. Ambrose examines the Allied commander's leadership during World War II. Ambrose brings Eisenhower's experience of the Second World War to life, showing in vivid detail how the general's skill as a diplomat and a military strategist contributed to Allied successes in North Africa and in Europe and established him as one of the greatest military leaders in the world.

Good read and account for the most part
Revisado: 12-06-24
Wish the "Eisenhower" and "Supreme Commander" were not switch back and forth do much, often from sentence to sentence. Decide what you are going to call him and stick to it unless a point needs to be made.
Also, please hesitate a bit when switch subjects, so one who is often driving, does't wonder when we changed locations and must back to find it.

Historia
Millions of words have poured forth about man's trip to the moon, but until now few people have had a sense of the most engrossing side of the adventure: namely, what went on in the minds of the astronauts themselves - in space, on the moon, and even during certain odysseys on earth. It is this, the inner life of the astronauts, that Tom Wolfe describes with his almost uncanny empathetic powers that made The Right Stuff a classic.

Too many mistakes, made up stuff, attitude
Revisado: 06-14-24
Author shows little understanding of the pilots and “operant conditioning”. IE: he should have read the book “Yeager” to see what it took for them to break the sound barrier. I doubt President Kennedy was in awe when meeting guys with the right stuff, as he was a combat veteran that served with distinction. I would consider that he would have considered them peers in that aspect. Author sounds like a drunk telling a story at a bar (repeating himself over and over again, louder and louder) It reminds me of one of those awful “unauthorized biographies” with the simplistic explanations and plain fiction at times.
I reviewed book after 8 hours, hund on till the end to see if it got better. Nope it did not get better.
I will avoid this author in the future.

Historia
Imagine a young doctor, trained in the latest medical knowledge and state-of-the-art equipment, suddenly transported back to one of the world’s most isolated and unforgiving environments - Nome, Alaska. That’s what happen to Dr. Sims. His plans to become a pediatric surgeon were drastically changed when, on the eve of being drafted into the army to serve as a MASH surgeon in Vietnam, he was offered a commission in the US Public Health for assignment in Anchorage, Alaska, where he was scheduled to act as chief of pediatrics at the Alaska Native Medical Center.

Better than I expected!
Revisado: 06-08-23
I’m not sure why this book caught my eye, most likely good reviews and a true story.
But, I’m glad it did. My kind of guy and he kept his head and made it happen by learning, listening, and persevering.

A Good Book
Revisado: 06-18-22
I would have liked a bit more detail of the actual battle.
Interesting how both sides had to contend with the Admirals in their home countries, thinking they knew better than those in the field.
Also good to see what a good commander Nimitz was, as opposed to idiots like MacArthur, who finally was relieved of command.

You do not have to be an aviation aficionado to enjoy Colonel Steve Ladd’s fascinating personal tale, woven around his 28-year career as a fighter pilot. This extremely engaging account follows a young man from basic pilot training to senior command through the narratives that define a unique ethos. From the United States to Southeast Asia; Europe to the Middle East; linking the amusing and tongue-in-cheek to the deadly serious and poignant, this is the lifelong journey of a fighter pilot.

Historia
The number one New York Times best-selling story about American Olympic triumph in Nazi Germany, the inspiration for the PBS documentary The Boys of '36, broadcast to coincide with the 2016 Summer Olympics and the 80th anniversary of the boys' gold medal race. Out of the depths of the Depression comes an irresistible story about beating the odds and finding hope in the most desperate of times - the improbable, intimate account of how nine working-class boys from the American West showed the world at the 1936 Olympics in Berlin what true grit really meant.

Little hard to keep track of multiple events
Revisado: 01-12-21
There are events going on in different locations and at different times. It can be hard to determine where they fit in the timeline. Also, because the names are not common to the USA, they can also make it a be a bit harder to follow, as one learns the enunciations.
A good story and I liked it.

Historia
The year is 1925. It is sixty degrees below zero. The wind sweeps tons of snow over the deep-frozen Alaskan landscape. The nearest railhead is seven hundred miles away. Airplanes cannot fly. The way to Nome is blocked by a treacherous frozen sound, an icebound port, and mountains to the west. But there is a diphtheria epidemic in Nome. The children need serum from the outside world if they are to survive. Their only hope is a few chosen Eskimo drivers and their teams of dogs.

It shows the true good in man and dog
Revisado: 03-11-18
Having worked in the field with dogs for over 20 years. Deployed to Ground Zero, Hurricanes Katrina and Ike, and countless smaller missions by FEMA as a K9 Search Specialist. I have not come across a better book that touches on the great work that can be done when a working dog and handler develop a partnership. It also reminds us of how humble truly good people are and how they and their dogs are willing to risk their lives to help others, just because they want to help.
