About 10 minutes of this would be ok as an amusing snippet. But there's absolutely no story telling skill in this book. It's an incoherent stringing together of random snippets with a multitude of people that we don't know because there's been no character development. Unbearable to listen to.

This is such a vivid story I felt like I was there every moment and knew all the characters. The history of Nazi occupation of Poland is made palpable while we are drawn into the lives of those people mvolved from all sides. The narration is outstanding. Each character has his and her own voice so we always know who’s talking and what their feelings are. A spellbinding audible experience!

Listening torture. The author should have read his writing out loud to himself so he could hear how bad his sentences and paragraphs were.

If you could sum up Orphan Train in three words, what would they be?

Then and now.

What did you like best about this story?

The bridging of the generations.

What about Jessica Almasy and Suzanne Toren ’s performance did you like?

They sounded real. I felt like I was in the room with them.

Who was the most memorable character of Orphan Train and why?

Vivain. She is old but has spunk and is willing to change.

Any additional comments?

Informative, engaging, and ultimately a book about hope and resilience.

Where does All the Light We Cannot See rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

At the top.

What other book might you compare All the Light We Cannot See to and why?

Doesn't really compare. Maybe the closest is The Things They Carried only because it is an atypical view of war and extremely well written.

Which scene was your favorite?

When Werner meets Mari Lor. (Not sure if spelling is correct.)

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Yes. A very emotionally charged book. Also intellectually challenging. Really makes you think.

Any additional comments?

I listened to this twice in 6 months and will certainly listen to it again. It's one of those stories you can't tear yourself away from.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes. The subject matter is extremely important, and the story is so engrossing.

Who was your favorite character and why?

The journalist Pablo because of his understated personal strength.

Which scene was your favorite?

The party at Anna's house because it shows the gentle, normal humanity of people affected by the brutality of drug wars in their own city.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

No, only because ti was so brutal. I had to take it in measured doses, although each dose was totally mesmerizing.

Any additional comments?

Should be required reading. Might actually curb drug abuse in the U.S.

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

No.The story dragged.

What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)

Predictable.

Would you listen to another book narrated by the narrators?

No. The main narrator sounded bored with her own character. Her boredom was contagious.

Do you think The Valley of Amazement needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

No. Instead, it needs massive truncating and revision.

Any additional comments?

Very disappointed in Amy Tan. Usually I like her work.

What made the experience of listening to Big Little Lies the most enjoyable?

Realistic characters that you just KNOW.

What did you like best about this story?

Complexity of the plot - not cookie-cutter.

What does Caroline Lee bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Very expressive intonation.

If you could rename Big Little Lies, what would you call it?

I wouldn't rename it. Title is perfect as is.

Any additional comments?

I couldn't put it down. Such a gripping tale.

Is there anything you would change about this book?

Just about everything. But it's worth knowing what that genre and period are about. I'm just glad I don't live in that society.

What about Emma Messenger’s performance did you like?

She did a good job.

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

No - too boring.
