Wow. Quite the story. I'm sure it would have been a brutal era in which to live. (I'm glad I didn't.) Some bits very graphic but they only convey the harshness of those times. Interesting story. Narrator does an excellent job with male and female voices. Even a little singing involved. REALLY enjoyed it. Now going on to book #2 in the series.

Very sweet story. Predictable at times, could possibly make a great movie. A bit heartbreaking at times, but, that's to be expected based on the short description. Just the right length.

Started out interesting,....but never quite got interesting enough. 3/4 of the way through this mystery I still didn't care what the outcome was.
Narration kills this one. Remember Samantha Stevens from Bewitched? They way Samantha would talk when she was excited or trying to lie is the only thing I can think of here. Maybe it's just poor production/editing.
Story has great possibilites.....and I wanted it to go, it just didn't have enough gas.

Did I get it right?
Revisado: 06-09-09
I loved this book, and some people say they get bored, but just hold on. Several separate stories, all add/lead to the main story. I'm still not sure if I read more into it or not, (my genius brother says it is what it is), but, I think there is something under. Guess you'll have to read it for yourself.
OH !! The narrator is EXCELLENT !!! Best time I've ever had with an a/book, where the narrator had to create so many different voices...yet they were all identifiable. Incredible. Have listened twice already.

I kept reading other reviews about how great this book is, but I wasn't impressed. All these mob stories are pretty interesting anyway, but a much better book in this category is Iceman. Wow. Now THERE'S a story.
I would consider this a "starter mafia" look into the genre. Some people are surprised, though I don't know why, at the cruelty of violence, and the harsh language. I didn't feel this book had much (if any?) overt violence at all.
