Surprised by how much I loved it!
Revisado: 01-31-23
I think the Mindy recommendation pushed me over the edge of giving it a try. However, I just finished it and will look for other books from this author after this review.
I laughed in my car and almost cried a few times. I love how the main stories were from three women in different stages of life.
It also explored the dealing with the emotional legacy of generations which I haven’t seen in other works.

Running and Gunning
Revisado: 02-08-22
This tale wastes no time in starting the mythological action packed adventure. I️ enjoyed the monsters and Recon marines savvy in taking the fight to the enemy and the glimpses of this inhospitable world opening up but by bit through Connors eyes. Looking forward to the next installment.

No Rest For the Wicked
Revisado: 08-12-21
Book 2 in the Rock band Fights Evil series. There is no rest for the 'sort of' wicked. This time around our pulpy heroes are relaxing with a cup of java and such when a pregnant waitress gives birth to flying poisonous serpents, the same type mentioned in the bible that Moses had to ward off with his staff. In the RBFE series anything cropping up out of Hell is possible.
Zach Bjorge is a fantastic narrator!
A number of Butler's fantastic fight scenes later we meet a snake handlin man and start to learn the awful truth about the snake worshipping cult of Apep. (I love that somebody is writing about Apep=Apophis besides me) These were some of my favorite moments in the book. The blending of myth, pseudo-Christian lore and just whacked out blues rock action.
I can't recommend these ebooks enough if you dig action packed occultic pulp!

Weakest effort to date
Revisado: 09-20-19
On the one hand Abercrombie is still an absolute master of language, tension and simile, but in the downside these characters are not their fathers and we lose for that. None of the children hold a candle to the previous ones we have come to love, fear and despise.
I️ still want to follow the journey and see what happens because Abercrombie is so damn good at drama etc, but I’d be lying if I️ didn’t admit this is his weakest book to date and doesn’t even give us a great finale, we are just left hanging to wait for the next one.

Historia
Yazid Valerion is alone with the truth, but his warnings fall on deaf ears. Eons ago, the Dead God promised a world of ash, and the time of that prophecy is now at hand. His only hope is to cross the sea with his few followers in search of ancient enemies, the Meites, and pray he can sway them to his cause. But the Meites are no mere mortals; they are powerful sorcerers prone to outbursts of destructive terror. Even if he can find them, there's no guarantee they won't slaughter him and his men upon first sight.

Historia
The galaxy remembers Hadrian Marlowe as a hero: the man who burned every last alien Cielcin from the sky. They remember him as a monster: the devil who destroyed a sun, casually annihilating four billion human lives - even the emperor himself - against Imperial orders. But Hadrian was not a hero. He was not a monster. He was not even a soldier. Fleeing his father and a future as a torturer, Hadrian finds himself stranded on a strange, backwater world.

Gripping
Revisado: 07-24-19
Loved this book, which was a surprise! I hadn’t heard of this author. My husband had this and I needed something to listen to. However, I just bought the sequel!
The world he creates with its multifaceted characters and cultures, each with their own language, is creative genius.
I’m sensitive to how women are portrayed and liked the female characters. It passes the Bechdel test.
I liked this so much I will look for other things by this author.
