The Story of Using Cadavers for Research

What did you like best about this story?

The kinds of medical and non-medical research conducted by using cadavers. Some of the uses can be disgusting and even stomach-turning.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Shock was my biggest reaction. From the gruesome story of body snatching in the 19th century to current research on decay, if I imagined that the people who donated their bodies to science as being alive I get a bit nauseous.

It is a good story that allows one who may consider donating their body to science to understand the implications. I believe the soul is not the body and my body is just a container of my life and soul.

Any additional comments?

The reader is upbeat to counter the morbidity of the story. I do recommend the book as long as the listener understands the wide-range of topics. It is a very interesting subject.

Do you know EVERYTHING about Ol' St. Nick?

Where does The True Saint Nicholas rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Because it is such a short story it ranks in the middle mainly because Dr. Bennett is not a professional reader. His voice can sound very droning. The length and the topic allows him to sound more upbeat but there are points where you can tell he needed to take a break.

Have you listened to any of William J. Bennett’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Having listened to "America's Last Best Hope" (sic) series Dr. Bennett seems more upbeat while reading this publication. The writing is aimed to the adolescent listener although all ages will enjoy it. There are likely some facts of the Santa Clause character.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

This story made me smile. It is a new tradition to play this on Christmas Eve.

What other book might you compare The Big Burn to and why?

The Perfect Storm is like The Big Burn. The difference is that The Big Burn includes historical persons and how the Federal government abandoned the rangers of the early days of the U.S. Forest Service at their time of greatest need.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

There is a point when the last train out was full and those that could not get on realized they were probably not going to survive. It is tempting to think this is a fictional story. If the government did even half of the things they did in this book the people would demand that someone be criminally charged.
