Unique
Revisado: 11-25-23
I always enjoy good world building. This is a very interesting story with well written characters and a unique world to travers. Usually I can pick out who the "bad guy" is right away but I was left shocked and guessing the entire time.
The romance was also in good taste. The steamy scenes were amazing. You can feel the romantic charge between the main characters. I always long for some angst / heart ache and this story really brings it all. I was never disappointed and didn't want to stop listening.
It helps that the audio book is well recorded. While not perfect, it is pretty easy to differentiate between each character. The emotion put into it is very real and just feels right with the story. Really the highlight is the emotion. Sometimes I listen to a book and the emotion does not fit with what is happening or it lacks emotion at all! This was not a problem here. I never was pulled out of the story. The emotion was moving and I felt it with every word spoken!

Historia
In the spring of 1995, Nate Cartwright has lost everything: His parents are dead, his older brother wants nothing to do with him, and he's been fired from his job as a journalist in Washington, DC. With nothing left to lose, he returns to his family's summer cabin outside the small mountain town of Roseland, Oregon, to try to find some sense of direction. The cabin should be empty. It's not.

Beautiful!
Revisado: 02-19-22
The story was stunning and compelling! Greg Tremblay's narration in the audio book was absolutely amazing, the emotion put through every word was very pleasing, so much so that I was able to FEEL his words!
The only criticism I have is the cellphone and laptop usage when the story is set in 1995. Cellphones and laptops were rare and very user UNfriendly, the amount of times they were brought up was strange. Therefore I was pulled from the story a bit and had a good 10min of laughter before I could continue. It was a silly pet peeve that didn't distract from how I was sent on a emotional roller-coaster and got SO VERY attached to the main cast!
The Bones Beneath My Skin is WELL worth a read and/or a listen! If you are unsure I'm telling you: TAKE A CHANCE!

Historia
Or rather, he can try - but it should come as no surprise when he’s crushed by the vast powers arrayed against him. Caius Oppita knows this, but after what he’s seen, it suits him better to go down fighting than to crawl on his hands and knees. The empire he’s served faithfully since he was a boy now wants him dead, and the lover he thought he could trust has betrayed him in the worst possible way. Maybe Caius can’t win the fight he’s about to undertake, but he’ll damn well drag the imperial family's corruption into the light of day if it kills him.

What a cliffhanger!
Revisado: 08-28-21
Not only is the narration by Cornell Collins pleasing to listen to, the story itself is quite captivating!
Unlike most series, which usually can be considered stand-alones, R. A. Steffan does a very compelling job of keeping the over arching plot of the story through both books while the individual books handle just a piece of the story. Each solving one mystery while the big picture is being unveiled piece by piece.
The two leads' love is heartbreakingly bittersweet and I am inthrawlled with their ups and downs as they struggle to care for eachother while disarray and misunderstandings get between them!
Needless to say I am very eager for the third book in this series! I need to know where Decian and Caius end up next!
