First comes gratitude for the fruits of the Earth. Next comes an understanding of reciprocity, and our responsibility to care for the planet which nurtures us all.

Shawn Otto diagnoses the problem, explains the importance of change, and provides specific recommendations for a “cure“. He explains that, unless we recover our understanding and appreciation of science, the vibrancy of our democracy and economy is seriously threatened. If that assertion seems extreme, see how you feel after reading this book.

I could hardly stop listening this story set in Germany during WW II. The characters became my friends and I was totally wrapped up in their hopes and dreams and dilemas. It is beautifully written. A young girl's relationship with her foster father brought tears to my eyes. Her relationship with the Jewish boy they were hiding was extraordinarily touching.
