Movie novelization with extra, nice 80's throwback
Revisado: 08-28-24
Chris Sarandon is great as narrator. if you saw the movie, you know this story. But new scenes arevadded in to carry forward the planned trilogy. I hope the sequel books are published, I want to see where this goes.

good story, good narration
Revisado: 04-25-23
I enjoyed this book a lot. a very real world issue mixed with quality characters, good arcs, and folk magic/horror. this author has a unique voice that adds an underrepresented point of view to the stories told.

good performance, bad writing
Revisado: 04-24-23
Pretty predictable YA style story, heavy on the high-school drama side of YA. Main character is gifted, but doesn't really use the skills as much as you would expect.

Fun forest witchy story
Revisado: 04-06-23
I really enjoyed the book. Good characters, goof narration. it was just the right length, long enough to develop characters and stay hooked, but not so long it sinks in the middle. I'll try some others from this author.

Background sounds and music are terrible
Revisado: 04-05-23
The background music and sound effects on this book make it impossible to listen to. Narration is lost or hard to hear at times. The story wasn't great, main character is irritating and survival of all the action is so far over the top it makes Bond look believable. Just bad.

just great fun to listen to
Revisado: 11-05-22
Great voice cast, fun monster horror adventure short. The authors do fun stories that keep moving but also have characters you like. It's not overly long, and is a perfect short while traveling or any other activity. Highly recommend if you are looking for a good creature flick feel in a book.

Now, it is her family's only chance of survival. They must leave their home, shun others, and find a remote haven where they can sit out the plague. But will it ever end? And what kind of world will be left?

Good narration, been there, done that story
Revisado: 01-12-22
A wasted premise for yet another version of the apocalypse where the actual creatures are barely in the story. Essentially a YA novel where the author spends way too much time inside the head of a teen girl repeating the same lines over and over.

Terrified survivors fled to hidden mountain keeps where they eke out a meager existence. When a trio of young warriors discovers a new weapon, they see a chance to end this curse. To save humanity, they must fight.

Zahra knew every detail of the plan. House of Wisdom, a massive exploration vessel, had been abandoned by the government of Earth a decade earlier, when a deadly virus broke out and killed everyone on board in a matter of hours. But now it could belong to her people if they were bold enough to take it. All they needed to do was kidnap Jaswinder Bhattacharya - the sole survivor of the tragedy, and the last person whose genetic signature would allow entry to the spaceship.

Too much character background, too little story
Revisado: 10-02-21
This is just a boring book. The split viewpoint means you get every scene twice, plus each viewpoint comes with its own "flashback" every time the story flips to the other character. You have this super interesting sci-fi/horror idea that is pushed to the side for needless backstory on pretty stock, cliche characters who don't really change or grow. It is just a really boring book that doesn't live up to the potential.

Welcome to Black Spring, the seemingly picturesque Hudson Valley town haunted by the Black Rock Witch, a seventeenth century woman whose eyes and mouth are sewn shut. Muzzled, she walks the streets and enters homes at will. She stands next to children's bed for nights on end. Everybody knows that her eyes may never be opened or the consequences will be too terrible to bear.

Terrible narration, boring story
Revisado: 12-21-20
The idea is interesting, but the writer really needed an editor with some trimmers. A couple hundred pages could have been trimmed. And then there is the narration. So nasal and weird. I pushed through, but I wished I hadn't as the story wasn't worth it.
