Would have been more interesting if written in fewer pages

The plot is good and I was moved by how the main character was conflicted between the man she lost and the man she found. However, she was also annoying. A weak person who squandered good relationships with continuous self doubt and drama. The number of times I had to suffer through repetitive dialogues of “I love you more than I’ve ever loved anyone” and “I’ll do anything for you” felt endless. I guess I am too pragmatic for romance. This felt dumb and disingenuous. However, it had a good plot line and could make an interesting film or series. (With better dialogue, I hope.)

Each book by David Foenkinos is a unique experience. This biographical story was very touching. I will now search for a way to see the paintings of Charlotte.

I admit it it took me a while to get into this book. But the more I read, the more I couldn’t put it down. It’s a very methodical telling of a history almost to sinister to believe. A history none of us should ignore.

The story is beautiful and beautifully read. At first, I did not like the addition of musical interludes, because I was replaying passages often to try to understand, and I would have to hear the music repeated each time. But as I became more acclimated to the French, and the story became more tender, I liked very much the addition of the music. This recording is not just a reading, but art. Thank you.

I wanted to brush up on my French—especially my listening skills. These stories were clever and fun to listen to. Far more interesting than stories solely focused on teaching vocabulary.
