What made the experience of listening to The Lewis Man the most enjoyable?

The wonderful reader; each character was so real

What did you like best about this story?

The writer tells the tale through two different people. Fin who is trying to solve the mystery with no knowledge of the past. And Tormod MacDonald who is losing his memory to dementia. The story is told in two parts cleverly intertwined. Fin's investigation and Tormod's tale of the past through his erratic and emotional memory . It is incredibly moving - you are part of this person's deterioration but you are also so aware of his life and all that he felt as a young man. Peter May has nailed this and I wonder if he has had some personal experience of the disease.

What about Peter Forbes’s performance did you like?

Each character he portrays is believable and I was particularly impressed with his rendition of Tormod - he was a confused old man. It was an excellent performance

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

Where you fill feel compassion for a murderous past......

Any additional comments?

You will see and almost smell the places May describes and you will be transported to the Islands he writes about - read it.

Revisado: 04-13-13

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I would indeed recommend the Harry Hole books to anyone who enjoys this genre. Once you are hooked on Harry, all the books are a must.

What other book might you compare Phantom: A Harry Hole Thriller, Book 9 to and why?

There are some similarities to Mo Hayder's character 'Jack Caffrey', although Harry is darker and sadder and his life is quite out of control more often than not

What does Sean Barrett bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Personally I think Sean Barret is one of the greatest performers when it comes to reading. He becomes each character, all of which are entirely believable. It's almost like watching a stage performance as you can visualise everything that he reads.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I did. I didn't cry but I was left with both a sense of loss and a feeling of relief when the book was finished.

Any additional comments?

For anyone who hasn't read any Harry Hole - treat yourself. Start at the beginning and enjoy the whole series.

Revisado: 04-13-13

If you could sum up Poppet in three words, what would they be?

Riveting, thrilling, creepy.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Jack Caffrey because he is a good man but he has flaws. He is imperfect but moralistic, which sounds strange but it's a successful combination which works and makes him a 'real' character.

Have you listened to any of Jot Davies’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Yes. I enjoy his work. He is easy to listen to and all his characters are distinguishable. His accents are excellent and you can get lost in his reading which is how it should be.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I would have loved to have had that luxury. As it was, it was the last thing I listened to before falling asleep and the first thing I reached for on waking up!

Any additional comments?

I did miss the 'Walking Man' as he is a powerful and wise character. I will wait in anticipation for Mo Hayder's next offering.

Revisado: 04-13-13

Would you try another book from Mary Balogh and/or Anne Flosnik?

There is no way that I could listen to Anne Flosnik again. I really can't comment on Mary Balogh after only listening to half a book, although I found it boring and the characters unbelievable.

What do you think your next listen will be?

Not this Mills and Boon type of book. Probably a psychological thriller

Would you be willing to try another one of Anne Flosnik’s performances?

Absolutely not.

What character would you cut from A Secret Affair?

Hannah - the Duchess of Dunbarton

Any additional comments?

This book belongs in a Mills & Boon cover
