Historia
A secret buried in the Antarctic. A puzzle unsolved for thousands of years. And a Brooklyn-born master gunnery sergeant who's royally pissed that he has to babysit the researchers sent to figure it all out. But when Patrick "Wic" Finnegan finally sees what the team has uncovered, he can't believe his eyes, nor is he prepared for the violence to come. Soon, the portal opens and unleashes a storm of unbridled fury upon humanity.

Retread of an old story line and very bad hero.
Revisado: 02-22-24
I'm sure you've read the other reviews that the story line is copied from Expeditionary Force. I was ok with this and stayed through the chapter 20 but couldn't get further. The lead character in the story is a military veteran who is an expert in weapons and tactics. For some reason the author makes him an idiot when it comes to adapting to the aliens they meet and the artifacts that come into their possession.
R.C. Bray was fantastic as usual.
I won't be continuing.

Historia
For years, rumors of the "Marsh Girl" have haunted Barkley Cove, a quiet town on the North Carolina coast. So in late 1969, when handsome Chase Andrews is found dead, the locals immediately suspect Kya Clark, the so-called Marsh Girl. But Kya is not what they say. Sensitive and intelligent, she has survived for years alone in the marsh that she calls home, finding friends in the gulls and lessons in the sand.

Historia
The battle-scarred star carrier Flying Dutchman is finally on her way back to Earth, after an exceptionally successful series of missions that have once again saved the world. The ship needs a serious refit, and her exhausted crew just wants a break from constant clandestine warfare against a vicious and superior enemy. Wishes come true, right? Not for the Merry Band of Pirates.

Enjoyed Revisiting the Merry Band of Pirates
Revisado: 04-08-19
First, RC Bray was fantastic and was the best part of Renegades.
Second, the overall story was very well done. I enjoyed the story line and how all of the problems were solved.
Third, I didn't enjoy some of the banter between Skippy and the monkeys. At times, I think the dialog was overdone, repetitive and tedious. This is why I gave the Story only 3 stars.
The irreverent humor was great. I loved when the story goes into the aliens point of view and wish there was more of that.

Historia
A Tortantula and a Flatar. The most enigmatic teaming in the mercenary guild, it’s also a perfect pairing, where one’s strengths cover the other’s weakness. Raised together from birth, their lives are a brutal series of tests. Azah isn’t like most other female Tortantula; she’s much smaller and made fun of. No one expects her to survive, much less succeed, but she’s still given a chance and assigned a Flatar: Sadek. The two quickly bond and find they complement each other. Against all odds, they survive the breeding dome and join the ranks of their races’ mercenaries.

Nice Story Line but Terrible Ending
Revisado: 03-28-19
I loved the first 75% of this book and was happy to learn about this origin story of the main character. The last few missions were really pretty disappointing and really felt rushed (although with only 7.5 hours I don't know why they'd want to rush the end).
It would be nice to see the follow up story and I will get it once available.
The narration by Cris Dukehart was solid.

With a heart of gold and her companion Kubu by her side, Esper sets out to make the galaxy a better place, preferably making enough money to pay for the fuel to get from one job to the next. But just because she’s not cut out to be ruthless doesn’t mean the galaxy is going to eat her alive.

Nice Return to the Black Ocean
Revisado: 03-28-19
Coming back to the J.S. Morin's Black Ocean and the great Mikael Naramore's narration was like meeting an old friend.
Although I do miss the original characters (and probably enjoyed their cameo's the most) the missions around Esper were a bit more one dimensional and straight forward with less turns and twists. I did enjoy seeing Espers and Kubus growth in this series and hope that continues.
The narration was fantastic. I can't wait for Mission pack 2.

Great side story!
Revisado: 03-28-19
I was worried after the first few chapters that I would not be able to get invested in the characters in this story but I'm glad I hung on because I ended up loving it.
I loved getting the back story of the main characters and the band of Marines and very much enjoyed seeing a Points perspective.
Mark Boyett was great (I was worried about not having RC Bray) and did a great job keeping the pace going and providing the needed emotions in the right places.
My only regret is that the story is a bit short - 7 hours...

At a time when Humans were just starting to venture forth into the Galactic Union as mercenaries, Martin Quincy survived long enough to do something no one else had - he retired. There was only one problem: He got bored. After battling aliens for many years - killing aliens and getting paid - retirement didn’t suit him, and he decided to strap on the combat armor and go back to the stars. Along with his old friend Kal, Martin joined Cartwright’s Cavaliers, humanity’s best merc company. Life was exciting! But he got bored. Again.

Great story telling and top notch narration
Revisado: 02-13-19
I was pleasantly surprised by this book. I'm always leery of getting books from authors and narrators that I'm not familiar with (I've been burnt too often) but Christopher Woods and Marc Vietor surprised me.
The story has plenty of great dialog, humor and action. My only complaint is that there are sooo many characters and various aliens that it gets overwhelming at times.
I look forward to reading more books in this series.

Funny and Honest Baseball Story
Revisado: 01-22-19
Solidly written, consistently funny and extremely well narrated. I don't normally read this sort of book, but I do love baseball and Ray Porter so I decided to give it a try.
This is an interesting account of the authors life as a minor league baseball player and gives great insight into that world. It kept me interested through most of the chapters but at times some of the player pranks got a bit long winded.
Again, Ray Porter was perfect.

I loved the focus on Goth and the history lesson
Revisado: 01-16-19
Imperator is a side story from the previous story and written in a time jumping, mind altering, mushroom tripping perspective. The history of Goth is really the history of the galaxy in this series and I thoroughly enjoyed it. So many threads are tied together here. I wish I had read the other books more recently so that my memory of events that are mentioned in Imperator were clearer (now I want to reread them).
RC Bray is perfect and always a treat to listen to, so 5 stars for him.
My only critical point is that the story is bloated at times. I understand the need to "set the stage", but I think it was done excessively at times.
Other reviews complained that this series is a rip-off of Star Wars. I think they miss the point - this series gives Star Wars fans an alternative to that theme without the handcuffs of the established canon. I enjoy this alternative and it's innovation execution and delivery.

Well Worth the Read
Revisado: 11-09-18
This is a great follow on to the original trilogy. It expands the story into multiple points of view, each with it's own narrator.
First off, the production quality (as other reviews have mentioned) gets low scores due to poor volume control - it really is very annoying.
Next, I personally enjoyed the new narrators. I loved TGR in the original series but these new ones made for a good change and each did very well. I guess my only complaint is that the Lysander narrator's pace a bit rushed in my opinion - otherwise I did enjoy him.
I liked all the story lines and new perspectives. Pierce Brown builds solid characters with full and colorful backgrounds. The dialog and interactions are on point. At times the story is long winded and bloated but it's not too distracting to me.
I look forward to the next installment.
