Historia
Tara Westover and her family grew up preparing for the End of Days but, according to the government, she didn’t exist. She hadn’t been registered for a birth certificate. She had no school records because she’d never set foot in a classroom, and no medical records because her father didn’t believe in hospitals. As she grew older, her father became more radical and her brother more violent. At 16, Tara knew she had to leave home. In doing so she discovered both the transformative power of education, and the price she had to pay for it.

Being liberated from a cotolling abusive environment.
Revisado: 02-24-24
Well written. Infuriating recall of abuse that was allowed to happen. Gives some understanding of how the abused allow it to continue. Sometimes God's gift is the escape ot necessarily the material success. Beautifully the life one gets trapped into in an extremist environment.

Historia
In Out Cold, science writer Phil Jaekl chronicles the underappreciated story of human innovation with cold, from Ancient Egypt, where it was used to treat skin irritations, to 18th-century London, where scientists used it in their first explorations of suspended animation. Throughout history, physicians have used cold to innovate life extension, enable distant space missions, and explore consciousness.

This book has a number of interesting anecdotes from historical events. How ever is spoild by fantasy speculation in others. Form its recolection of cryonic events it shows this to be a failure rather than a blind redo of aome real possibility.

Historia
Dear Diary Boy is an intensely personal, heartwarming, and heartbreaking chronicle of one mother and child's experience in a prestigious private Tokyo school. It's a tale that will resonate with all parents as we try to answer the age-old questions of how best to educate our children and what, truly, is in their best interests versus what is in our own.

This is a delightful description of trying to fit to cultural norms. Trying to understand a different boy because of his ADHD.
This is a great description of the every day dealing with cultural and child raising challenges.

Zero day: a software bug that allows a hacker to break in and scamper through the world’s computer networks invisibly until discovered. One of the most coveted tools in a spy's arsenal, a zero day has the power to tap into any iPhone, dismantle safety controls at a chemical plant and shut down the power in an entire nation - just ask the Ukraine. Zero days are the blood diamonds of the security trade, pursued by nation states, defence contractors, cybercriminals and security defenders alike. In this market, governments aren’t regulators; they are clients.

Historia
On a warm July evening in 1985, a middle-aged man stood on the pavement of a busy avenue in the heart of Moscow, holding a plastic carrier bag. In his grey suit and tie, he looked like any other Soviet citizen. The bag alone was mildly conspicuous, printed with the red logo of Safeway, the British supermarket.

Historia
Beartown is a small town in a large Swedish forest. For most of the year it is under a thick blanket of snow, experiencing the kind of cold and dark that brings people closer together - or pulls them apart. Its isolation means that Beartown has been slowly shrinking with each passing year. But now the town is on the verge of an astonishing revival. A bright new future is just around the corner. Until the day it is all put in jeopardy by a single, brutal act. It divides the town into those who think it should be hushed up and forgotten, and those who'll risk the future to see justice done.

A slightly slow start but a very well told and gripping story. The narrator taking on different English accents for a story not from there was a bit irritating but otherwise well told.

Historia
In the winter of 1939 in the cold snow of no-man's-land, two loners met and began an extraordinary journey together, one that would bind them for the rest of their lives. One was an orphaned puppy, abandoned by his owners as they fled the approaching Nazi forces. The other, a lost soul of a different sort - a Czech airman, flying for the French Air Force but soon to be bound for the RAF and the country that he would call home.

Historia
After getting shot down in the skies over France in the winter of 1939, airman Robert Bozdech stumbled across a tiny German Shepherd puppy. He hid the dog, whom he named Ant, inside his jacket, and from that moment on an unbreakable bond was formed. They flew together with Bomber Command, and when Ant was eventually grounded by the RAF top brass he waited patiently on the runway for his master to return from each and every sortie. By the end of the war Ant had become a very British hero.
