Historia
Alexis Gold knows how to put the "work" in working mom. It's the "mom" part that she's been struggling with lately. Since opening her own advertising agency three years ago, Alexis has all but given up on finding a good work/life balance. Instead, she's handed over the household reins to her supportive, loving partner, Tommy. While he's quick to say they divide and conquer, Alexis knows that Tommy does most of the heavy lifting - especially when it comes to their teenage daughter, CeCe. Their world changes in an instant when Tommy receives a terminal cancer diagnosis.

Yuck!
Revisado: 10-07-20
I’ve rarely disliked a character as much as I did CiCi. She was completely out of control, extremely whiny, acted as though she was “entitled”, and, needed some serious discipline. And, her father was a shrink - give me a break. In addition to CiCi, her mother was a whimp. I mean really, grow up already and act like an adult and a mother.
Other than that, there were some lovely “life reminders” and some moments of true tenderness. Therefore the very generous 3 star rating.

Too Long!
Revisado: 07-16-18
The most unappealing thing about this book is the main female character. Olivia is willing to take abuse upon abuse (not physical - emotional) throughout the book. Why a woman author would portray a female in such a weak way is beyond me. This 14 hour plus story could be told in less than half the time.

Historia
Jeannette Walls grew up with parents whose ideals and stubborn nonconformity were both their curse and their salvation. Rex and Rose Mary Walls had four children. In the beginning, they lived like nomads, moving among Southwest desert towns, camping in the mountains. Rex was a charismatic, brilliant man who, when sober, captured his children's imagination. Rose Mary painted and wrote and couldn't stand the responsibility of providing for her family; she called herself an "excitement addict."

Don't Bother
Revisado: 06-11-18
This is by far the most annoying, boring book I've ever tried to listen to. After 3 hours of nasal, irritating narration, I gave up. Please, if you want to keep your sanity, don't buy to book.

There's no way I'll fall for Wyatt Hennington. He can keep his Southern drawl, irresistible smile, and those pick-up lines all to himself. I made the mistake of sleeping with him not once, but twice. I'm not stupid enough to give him round three, especially after he left me in the middle of the night so I could see myself out. I vow to return to Philadelphia and forget him.

Historia
In A Thousand Country Roads, Robert Kincaid initially finds himself with little but memories - memories of a lonely existence lived mostly on the road and memories of Francesca Johnson, the woman whose passion he stirred so briefly and with such power. Kincaid takes to the road again in what becomes a journey of discovery and surprise.

I put this book down many times thinking that perhaps I'd never finish it. I was looking for a happy ending for Robert and Francisca. I eventually waded through the first 3 hours to get some closure on the life of the photographer, Robert Kindaid.

Historia
Zoe knows that it wasn't really her fault. Of course it wasn't. But if she'd just grasped harder, run faster, lunged quicker, she might have saved him. And Edward doesn't really blame her, though his bitter words at the time still haunt her, and he can no more take them back than she can halt the car that killed their son. Two years on, every day is a tragedy. Edward knows they should take healing steps together, but he's tired of being shut out. For Zoe, it just seems easier to let grief lead the way.

This was a very difficult book for me to read. It was tragic, exhausting and terribly depressing. I gave it four stars because it was well written, but the story was too sad for me.

Although I quickly knew where the story was headed, it was certainly worth the ride. Karen Peakes gives a wonderful performance with her soothing narration. This is my first Mary McCluskey book and I am very impressed. I will be looking for others written by her.

“Why is this town called Mother’s Rest?” That’s all Reacher wants to know. But no one will tell him. It’s a tiny place hidden in a thousand square miles of wheat fields, with a railroad stop, and sullen and watchful people, and a worried woman named Michelle Chang, who mistakes him for someone else: her missing partner in a private investigation she thinks must have started small and then turned lethal.
