Another fine addition to an excellent series
Revisado: 08-28-18
Not sure if I've said this before about the series, but Mixon's EoB series is one of the few that I jump on as soon as there's a new release. Looking forward to seeing what happens to PK... both of them. :)
Veronica Giguere's narration is fantastic. She manages to keep the various characters unique as she gives them life, and her vocal talent seems to get better from one book to the next.

Historia
A lie is a prison without bars. A captive of the enemy, Candace is forced to confront mistakes and regrets from both sides of the battlefield, including her own. Nothing is simple, and lines in the sand that were once clear have become blurred and indistinguishable. Even the unlikely love she found teeters on the edge of uncertainty. The truth is not always what it seems, and can be a prison of its own. Alone, she must decide where she stands. Alone, she must decide who to trust. When the smoke clears, what's left might not be much...but it might be enough.

We need more Evolution
Revisado: 04-24-18
This is the third, (and for the moment, last) book in the Evolution series, and I continue to be impressed. The story is well written, and Ms. Huchton voices her characters incredibly well.

Historia
Devastated by her choices, Candace Bristol is on the brink of losing it all: her mind, her hope, everything she thought she was. But from the ruins rises new purpose. An enemy has emerged and it will take everything to combat this new threat. Broken as she is, picking up the pieces and carrying on might be the hardest battle to win, but it's either fight, or lose what little she has left. Amongst the wreckage, hope still burns. The flicker of a flame kindles something within her she thought was dead. Love can break you. So, too, can it bring you back to life.

Even better than Book 1
Revisado: 04-24-18
The author dug deeper into the characters in this second book in the Evolution series. There are some tropes to romance, there's just no getting around that. It's part of the reason I typically don't care for the genre... what many find a comforting storyline, I usually find too predictable.
However, just because I don't usually care for romance doesn't mean I can't appreciate good writing. And these books are VERY well written. I am writing this review after having listened to all three in the series, and I can tell you right now that this book, the second of three, is by far my favorite.
Ironically enough, it's the secondary characters that made the book for me. They are fully fleshed out, and (despite their superhero status) very relatable. There is one point in particular, where the loss of a secondary character was so well written that it literally choked me up.
Well done, Ms. Huchton.

Not what I usually read, but glad I gave it a shot
Revisado: 04-24-18
First, know that I hardly EVER leave reviews (long story, but there are reasons). Second, know that I am not usually a follower of super hero fiction. Third, I'm not a big fan of romance, either.
That being said, I'm a big proponent of indie writers, and love audiobooks, so when I won the Evolution audiobooks in a contest, I thought I would give them a try.
I'm so glad I did. This series has made me break my review embargo.
The Evolution story is a mashup of romance and superhero fiction, well written, and well narrated.
Starla Huchton, you've gained a new fan.

Good start to an excellent series
Revisado: 11-10-17
I've been travelling a lot for work, so I downloaded all five of the currently available "Starship's Mage" books, based on recommendations from some friends. I am so glad that I did. This first novel reads like it was originally written as a series of episodes for a magazine or some such. I assume that's why it was labeled as an omnibus. It was obvious where the "episodes" opened & closed, but this didn't detract too much from the overall enjoyment of the story.
As for the narration, Jeffrey Kafer is excellent, as always. I don't think he could turn in a bad vocal performance if he tried to. :)

Who doesn't love a kick-ass princess?
Revisado: 06-20-17
What was one of the most memorable moments of Veil of Shadows?
The princess learning to come to grips with the changes that have been forced upon her had just the right mix of determination and humor to make the character sympathetic to the listener/reader.
What about Veronica Giguere’s performance did you like?
As always, V does a great job voicing the whole cast of characters.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Yes. Where the first book in the series was a good introduction to the world and characters, this was a great launch into the larger picture, with plenty of action, character development, and plot expansion.
Any additional comments?
Now, on to the third title. Yeah, I'm definitely hooked.

Great start to a wonderful series
Revisado: 06-20-17
Would you listen to Empire of Bones again? Why?
Possibly. I don't often listen to books more than once, but this was a fun story.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Empire of Bones?
Great intro to a nasty antagonist in the Pale Ones. I have a feeling there is MUCH more to come with that story.
What about Veronica Giguere’s performance did you like?
Veronica has a fantastic ability with voices. This is definitely not just a straight read. She manages to find a new voice for each character and bring them to life in the story.

Great story - Great voice performance
Revisado: 11-18-16
What did you love best about We Are Legion (We Are Bob)?
This was a wonderful, inventive story that not only serves as an entertaining sci-fi adventure, but also explores the theme of individuality. In other words, what makes us... us?
What about Ray Porter’s performance did you like?
Ray Porter, the narrator/voice actor, gave an outstanding performance, especially considering that most of the characters were variations of the original "Bob". So many "Bob"s, yet I never got confused as to who was speaking. Excellent job.
