Historia
Clive Barker has made his mark on modern fiction by exposing all that is surreal and magical in the ordinary world - and exploring the profound and overwhelming terror that results. With its volatile mix of the fantastical and the contemporary, the everyday and the otherworldly, Weaveworld is an epic work of dark fantasy and horror - a tour de force from one of today's most forceful and imaginative artists.

Good Story, Maybe Even A Good Movie
Revisado: 03-24-25
I read this book in the mid-90's and enjoyed it. Now almost 30 years later I listened to it and I still enjoyed the story very much. I always thought that it would make an interesting movie.

Historia
There’s a dirty little secret about aviation maintenance: It often breaks aircraft instead of fixing them. Manifesto is the much-anticipated first audiobook from renowned aviation columnist and speaker Mike Busch. Written in typical no-nonsense style, it lays out the basis of Mike's “minimalist” maintenance philosophy for owner-flown general aviation aircraft. An owner who follows the audiobook's guidance can save a small fortune on maintenance costs and end up with a safer, more reliable aircraft.

Decent
Revisado: 01-18-23
I've been in aviation for 21 years now and I have heard both sides of the discussion that is made in this book. It is a very subjective topic and even though maintenance induced accidents do happen (12% of the time) more often pilot error is a bigger cause of accidents in aviation. That's why it is highly recommended that all pilots become familiar with human factor caused issues in aviation.

Historia
The Fallacy Detective has been the best-selling book for teaching logical fallacies and introduction to logic for over 15 years. What is a fallacy? A fallacy is an error in logic a place where someone has made a mistake in his thinking. “A cloud is 90 percent water. A watermelon is 90 percent water. Therefore, since a plane can fly through a cloud, a plane can fly through a watermelon.” This is an easy book for learning to spot common errors in reasoning. For ages 12 through adult. Fun to use - learn skills you can use right away.

Not Very Insightful
Revisado: 03-03-22
So apparently if you want to be a proficient speed reader you have to spend a considerable amount of time doing prep work. That seems very counterintuitive, trying to save time reading by doing a bunch of pre-reading. This was my introduction into the world of speed reading and right now I'm not very impressed. I'm gonna try one more book on the subject and if it's not any better than this one then I'm just going stick to the old tried and true method of sub-vocalization. Maybe you'll have better luck with this book then I did.

Historia
The Nazi regime preached an ideology of physical, mental, and moral purity. But as Norman Ohler reveals in this gripping new history, the Third Reich was saturated with drugs. On the eve of World War II, Germany was a pharmaceutical powerhouse, and companies such as Merck and Bayer cooked up cocaine, opiates, and, most of all, methamphetamines, to be consumed by everyone from factory workers to housewives to millions of German soldiers.

It's a decent book
Revisado: 01-16-22
Overall a pretty good book to listen to. It had some decent insight on drug use by the Nazis during WW2, especially Hitler. I've done a little bit of research about Hitler's doctor and the claims and record keeping about Hitler's drug use and some people believe that it is mild hyperbole. I say do your own research and listen to this book and then make that decision for yourself.

The Horror of It All is a memoir from the front lines of the industry that dissects (and occasionally defends) the hugely popular phenomenon of scary movies. Author Adam Rockoff traces the highs and lows of the horror genre through the lens of his own obsessive fandom, born in the aisles of his local video store and nurtured with a steady diet of cable trash.

Language defines us as a species, placing humans head and shoulders above even the most proficient animal communicators. But it also beguiles us with its endless mysteries, allowing us to ponder why different languages emerged, why there isn't simply a single language, how languages change over time and whether that's good or bad, and how languages die out and become extinct.

Historia
Do the lessons passed down to us by history, lessons whose origins may lie hundreds, even thousands of years in the past, still have value for us today? Is Santayana's oft-repeated saying, "Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it," merely a way to offer lip service to history as a teacher-or can we indeed learn from it? And if we can, what is it that we should be learning?

Worth A Listen
Revisado: 02-24-21
Overall this was not a bad listen, it gives multiple examples of lessons to be learned throughout history and the implications for not learning those lessons. As far as how it ranks among other Great Courses that I've listened to and/or watched, I'd say it falls somewhere in the middle.
