Couldn’t finish the first book in the series. The author demonstrates impressive knowledge of weapons and pepper craft, but displaying that knowledge seems more important to him than advancing the story.

I love apocalyptic stories and I’m a political moderate but the constant lecturing about how bad government is, implying there is no downside to guns, and highlighting how many good things can come from rolling civilization back 150 years - well it’s not entertaining, it’s tedious. Or maybe I’ve just consumed too much fluorinated water…

Not the greatest, bland like chewing on person’s entrails, but still filling.

Many of the characters don’t express the level of shock and sadness you would expect from losing a child or a sibling. It’s like, ”oh well, they’re zombies now.” I stuck with the story, though, and it improved as I got to know and like new characters… of course I’ll leave how many make it for you to discover.

Great twist on the franchise!

Started slow, but I’m so glad I stuck around for the end! Great characters and build up to the climax.

Liked Pinchot’s narration overall, but much of the action was described with the same, breathless excitement and urgency. There was nowhere left to go when the action got truly intense.

Overall the best of the Aliens books I’ve listened to thus far.

Most stories, good, most narrators aren’t

Some of the stories were excellent, some were so-so. One male narrator in particular was very hard to get used to. He had a halting delivery, with inflection that sounded much like an old time movie announcer for the news reels.

A fun ride - in a spaceship!

A fun story, with keen insights on today’s media, an adventure that wastes no time, and a ship with a sense of humor.

The narration was perfect and brought this fun book to life.

I should have looked for an alternative

For all of the hours spent listening to the five books, I wish that I had been more entertained. The story was interesting, especially has it wrapped up, but overall did just wasn’t all that it could’ve been.

A lot of the characters use the same vocabulary, and the repetition of story required to make each book standalone used time that could have better spent further developing the characters.

Quantum: NOT a Thriller!

I felt no attachment to the protagonist, maybe because she is so unbelievable. She is a cop, test pilot, cybersecurity expert, forensics detective, engineer, etc. Add that the annoying mix of arrogance and whining of her constant her internal thoughts and I just couldn’t feel anything for her.

Plus a story that took 10 hours could have been condensed to 2. I guess it is the recent trend to break a story into multiple books by adding filler and make more sales. And it seems Cornwell wanted to prove that she’d done her research and wanted us to know she understood every acronym in use, whether it contributed materially to the story or not.

Ugh. I’ll pass on future Cornwell works.

It’s about more than a guy living alone in a bunker

Okay it’s mostly about a guy living alone in his bunker, but so much more. The observations about our society are sharp, and I wish more authors could see both sides of the fence we build between “us” and “them.”

And Ray Porter again knocks the narration out of the park (or at least out of the shroom-heads’ neighborhood)!

Surprisingly entertaining.

The summary could have been summarized in 10 minutes

Note to narrator, not every sentence requires an inflection. Note to publisher, if you have to devote a full chapter to disclaimers, you might want to do a better job with the actual content.

Unfortunately, this summary of the five second rule is chock-full of examples of the wonders things that the five second rule has done for people are to pad the very simple concept behind it. I found it tedious to listen to, but other listeners mileage may vary
