Overall, a good installment in the series. Unfortunately, we again have a stupid woman with a 'terrible secret' who needs rescuing (3rd book, essentially the same plot). The male characters are so appealing and well sketched that I wonder why the women have to be so silly.

Convoluted plot. Not much sci-fi. But fun for all that.

A tribute to 1960's movies. The story is the basic "strange legacy " trope with Bond like supervillians. Think "Charades" - minus the romance- with a few sentient dolphins and cats thrown in.

Starts off with the protagonist explaining why she was late for work to her alien boss - her bus hit a chicken - in NYC. And it goes on at a quick pace and a light touch from there. The narrator contributes talents to bring the tale alive.

A poignant story of a man who fought for the rights of others while concealing his own special needs for fear of seeming something less if people were aware of his encroaching blindness.

The cardinal college is apparently a den of thieves, cheaters, liars and fornicators in this version of the Vatican. The totally contrived "plot twist" at the end of the story is anticlimactic.
The narration is perfect as ever, but Harris must have been channeling his inner Dan Brown on this outing.

We meet our protagonists after they have lost everything, even if they don't know it yet.
The first Interegnam has ended. The monarchy is restored. Promises made during the surrender are being broken. Our Puritan heroes flee certain death to the colonies until things calm down, not realizing that their lives as they have know them have ended.
This rich tale of faith, love and politics brings a very cloudy period of history to life. There is a lot of historical information about the Puritans covered in this book, but it is given color and context in this engaging story of a family oppressed by a man bent on revenge fueled by a justifiable rage.

Nothing is ever easy for the Bobs. Every solution to a problem becomes the foundation for a new set of challenges. Things to look forward to: Skippies outwit themselves - you knew they would - and Star Fleet is explained - sort of. It is not an exaggeration to say that I couldn't put it down. Cannot wait for the next installment.

Two cartoonist side characters come to life

If you have read the previous novels, Tom is a rather thinly sketched, although fun semi-good guy - more of plot device than a fully developed character. Cassandra is a lovely, but bland, companion character to her twin Phoebe. In this novel, the two " also rans" develop into two characters that you will love.
Tom is managing a lifetime of hurt by denying his feelings - until the first time he meets Cassandra. Having had no luck with loving anyone, he approaches the relationship with his infinitely practical and totally crass directness to which Cassandra and her family have no problems handing him a firm "no".
Cassandra is a beauty at the end of her rope. She has had it with men who want her for her beauty, fortune, and bland personality that she has been trained to display. She has seen people in love and she wants that for herself preferably with a suitable noble - which Tom is not.
Attracted to each other anyway, they try to leave each other alone, but family and mutual acquaintances keep them in proximity. In the meantime, both of them have time to figure out that the preconditions that they had placed on marriage are not nearly as important as they thought.
After a malicious intrigue destroys Cassandra's attempt to reconcile herself to life in the ton, Tom brings a practical solution to her dilemma. A sweet love story develops.

Bride gains everything by doing what she is told.

Story: Bride is from a clearly dysfunctional family raised in an oppressive convent, wins handsome, loving husband by being unbearably sweet and compliant. The end.

Characters: The character arc is absolutely flat for every character. The hero is absolutely noble. The heroine is totally passive and borderline stupid. The family is evil. The Scots are universally wonderful....nothing to see here...where is the story?

Narration: I normally enjoy Wells narration. but she never once pronounced "plaid" properly (she prounounces it like the word played). This is a story that takes place in Scotland, so the word comes up a lot. It was annoying by the 3rd chapter and grating by chapter 5.

Overall: Pass on this one. There was no honest effort in the writing or execution.
