Historia
In 2011, three successful and highly educated women fell head over heels for the brilliant and charming Ethan Schuman. Unbeknownst to the others, each exchanged countless messages with Ethan, staying up late into the evenings to deepen their connections with this fascinating man. His detailed excuses about broken webcams and complicated international calling plans seemed believable, as did last minute trip cancellations. After all, why would he lie? Ethan wasn't after money—he never convinced his marks to shell out thousands of dollars for some imagined crisis.

The absolute gall of the perpetrator vs. the naiveté of the victims.
Revisado: 03-06-25
The story was well written, although my patience began to wear thin when Anna kept on communicating with Ethan long after she should have.

Historia
As a string of high-profile jewel thefts went unsolved during the Swinging Sixties, the press dubbed the elusive thief the King of Diamonds. Like Cary Grant in To Catch a Thief, the King was so bold that he tip-toed into the homes of millionaires while they were home, hiding in their closets and daring to smoke while they were sleeping. Rena Pederson, then a young reporter with UPI, started following the elusive thief while she managed the night desk. With gymnastic skill, he climbed trees and crawled across rooftops to take jewels from heiresses, oil kings, corporate CEOs.

Mystery Unsolved
Revisado: 08-31-24
As a true crime book, this one falls short of solving the actual mystery. Speculation upon speculation leading to no clear conclusion. However, as an expose' of Dallas high society, this is an highly entertaining and informative book. I grew up in Dallas but certainly not in the society portrayed. Most of the names were constantly on the society pages of Dallas' two newspapers. I was on the very farthest periphery of the Dallas wealthy, as my mother worked as a secretary to Jake Hamon for a time and my first husband and I interviewed for him to become H.L. Hunt's chauffeur. We were in our early twenties and declined the job. Although it paid well, we would have had to live on the premises overlooking White Rock Lake and be on call 24-7. Hunt seemed like a quirky old man and had clear plastic upholstery over all his pricey furniture.
Back to the book...although interesting, it rambles quite a bit, going back and forth among the various society celebrities. Just when I thought Ms. Pederson was about to reveal the identity of the jewel thief, back she would go to follow another rich person's story. The narrator is just fair, and should have researched some pronunciations. She calls the famous Four Sixes Ranch, the six-six-six-six ranch, and seriously butchers the Terpsichorean Club as Terpsi-KOREAN. No crime here, just wishing she had learned something about Texas that would lead to correct pronunciation. In fact, a narratator with a strong Texas accent would have been perfect.

It goes on and on and on...
Revisado: 05-31-24
Sorry. I don't get the rave reviews here. This story went on and on and on, more emphasis on the villains than on the protagonists, hard to suspend belief in regard to multiple universes. Sort of a poor combination of Frankenstein and the Time Machine. Waste of my time. I don't care that the story is not finished. I don't care to know what happens to these poorly drawn characters.

Historia
It's the end of a night out and Joanna is walking home alone. Then she hears the sound every woman dreads: footsteps behind her, getting faster. She's sure it's him—the man from the bar who wouldn't leave her alone. So Joanna makes a snap decision. She turns, she pushes. Her pursuer tumbles down the steps and lies motionless, facedown on the ground. Now what?

Unusually well crafted story
Revisado: 03-30-24
Stick with this one even if the protagonist irritates the hell out of you. I couldn’t stand Joanna at first and almost gave up, but curiosity won me over. The characters all grow and change in very human and rewarding ways. The incident that sparks Joanna’s two possible paths changes more lives than hers. This book is well worth the effort.

Tedious Reading of e-posts
Revisado: 11-07-23
This is a good book, but I'm thinking it might be better read on paper. The constant repetition of @blackheart this and @blackheart that became so tedious I had to stop my re-listening. I've been relistening to all the Robert Galbraith books and enjoying them, but I had to quit this one on the second listening. BWAH!!!

Nothing Could be Better
Revisado: 10-09-23
Another superb Strike story. I loved that it was 34 hours, and wish it had been 70. This one has some extreme situations and was not always an easy listen, but Strike and Robin made it through with a couple of game changing major events in their lives. I listened to the end in bed last night, and couldn't sleep afterwards. I haven't watched the C.B. Strike TV series, but I think I may have to, just to get my Strike and Robin fix before the next novel.
