Too racist to be scary
Revisado: 02-12-25
See the title of my review. I want to like this book as it is considered the cornerstone of cosmic horror, that being said, I don’t think it would be scary even if it wasn’t so racially charged. I found a dent and hard to get through even with an engaging Reader.

Historia
Ryland Grace is the sole survivor on a desperate, last-chance mission - and if he fails, humanity and the Earth itself will perish. Except that right now, he doesn't know that. He can't even remember his own name, let alone the nature of his assignment or how to complete it. All he knows is that he's been asleep for a very, very long time. And he's just been awakened to find himself millions of miles from home, with nothing but two corpses for company.

Historia
Drawing on a wealth of untapped archival materials and the reports of generations of family members - mayors, judges, scholars, diplomats, and journalists - The Hundred Years' War on Palestine upends accepted interpretations of the conflict, which tend, at best, to describe a tragic clash between two peoples with claims to the same territory. Instead, Khalidi traces a hundred years of colonial war on the Palestinians, waged first by the Zionist movement and then Israel, but backed by Britain and the United States, the great powers of the age.

A must read for progressive Jews
Revisado: 12-28-23
This book was one of the most gut wrenching and challenging reads I have ever consumed. It is a honest review of what has happened in Israel for the past 100 years. if you want to hear an honest perspective, which does a fair job of acknowledging the shortcomings of the Palestinian resistance movement, this is a book that will leave you more informed than when you began.

Historia
Renowned Israeli historian Ilan Pappe's groundbreaking book revisits the formation of the State of Israel. Between 1947 and 1949, over 400 Palestinian villages were deliberately destroyed, civilians were massacred, and around a million men, women, and children were expelled from their homes at gunpoint. Denied for almost six decades, had it happened today it could only have been called "ethnic cleansing."

A powerful and challenging read
Revisado: 12-05-21
I’m not going to get into the nuances of this book but I believe that the author has a deep knowledge of the challenges facing the situation and the credibility to back his argument. As a Jew who was raised to support the state of Israel and see Zionism as a means of survival, this read was incredibly difficult but necessary. I will warn that The author makes no attempt to see the actions of Zionist actors in any light other than somewhat malicious intent. This book has a strict focus on the events of 1948 and does not discuss Israeli Arab relationships prior to 1948 in anyway. I still have questions I need to learn more about the subject.
The hardest part of this audiobook for me was the reader used a weird Israeli impression when reading quotations from historical texts. I wish that this has been a straight read instead of doing these crude caricatures of Israeli accents.
Regardless, this is a very important book and any Zionist who completes the literature and has a problem with it should certainly find a way to dismantle the discussion in an academic setting
