Historia
Acclaimed actress Claire Danes burnishes an epic story of heroes, gods, and monsters in a groundbreaking translation of The Odyssey, the first great adventure story in the Western literary tradition. When the wily warrior-king Odysseus sets off for home after the Trojan War, he doesn’t realize this simple undertaking will become a perilous journey of 10 years. Beset at every turn, he encounters obstacles, detours, and temptations—both supernatural and human—while his wife Penelope fends off would-be suitors desperate to take the throne.

Very good story, but reading could have been better.
Revisado: 01-23-25
The story was good obviously but I felt that the reading while done well was a bit off. Would have been better with a cast of actors but what do I know, it is just my perspective. The summary in the beginning would have probably been better suited at the end instead of the beginning.

This book had a lot of great stories of making of the movie. Elwes does a great job reading and his voice impressions are great as well as the cut ins from other costars. The only issue I had is that it was too short and feel it had some more room for expansion from other perspectives but since it was mainly from Elwes' perspective it was a great book and he wrote and told it great.

Throughout the years, three of Elisabeth's children mysteriously appeared on the Fritzls' doorstep; Josef and Rosemarie raised them as their own. But only Josef knew the truth about Elisabeth's disappearance.... For 27 years, Josef had imprisoned and molested Elisabeth in his man-made basement dungeon.

Good but not great.
Revisado: 10-24-24
The reading was amazing, the story was good but unfortunately if you are an avid reader of these type of biopics on criminals this one seems to be average and nothing too shocking. Well researched and a good book but it didn't have anything you couldn't find in a documentary or anything you haven't heard or seen already from other content on this case.

Not a wrestling biography.
Revisado: 07-26-24
I should have guessed from the title but this book is mostly about religion and very little about his wrestling career. If you are hoping for a good wrestling book with cool stories then you will be disappointed. The reader was good but unless you are looking for a religious reborn story and not about his wresting which to be honest is the only draw I see from him, then I don't think this is the book for you.

While most of Postl's adult life has been spent in the wild world of the wrestling industry, his is more than a story of a little person's journey through a world of giants; it's a memoir of elation and anguish, triumph and disappointment, and of how an endlessly positive outlook combined with the unwavering support of family and friends helped a long shot become a success in his industry and a loving, responsible father.

Historia
Long before their first Super Bowl victory in 2003, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers did something no NFL team had ever done before and that none will ever likely do again: They lost 26 games in a row. It started in 1976, in their first season as an expansion team, and it lasted until the penultimate game of the 1977 season, when they defeated Archie Manning and the New Orleans Saints on the road. It was the beginning of a new streak for a team that had come to be called "The Yucks".

Historia
In 1994, fledgling journalist Louis Theroux was given a one-off gig on Michael Moore’s TV Nation, presenting a segment on apocalyptic religious sects. Gawky, socially awkward and totally unqualified, his first reaction to this exciting opportunity was panic. But he’d always been drawn to offbeat characters, so maybe his enthusiasm would carry the day. Or, you know, maybe it wouldn’t. In his audiobook, Louis takes the listener on a joyous journey through his life and unexpectedly successful career.

Historia
In the fall of 1999, a 22-year-old woman was discovered naked and bleeding on the streets of a small New Mexico town south of Albuquerque. She was chained to a padlocked metal collar. The tale she told authorities - of being beaten, raped, and tortured with electric shock - was unthinkable. Until she led them to 59-year-old David Ray Parker, his 39-year-old fiancee Cindy Hendy, and the lakeside trailer they called their "toy box." What the FBI uncovered was unprecedented in the annals of serial crime.

I enjoyed this reading. It was very well researched and the reader did a great job with the inflections and delivering it in a way that wasn't offensive and it didn't seem he wasn't trying to hard. If you are interested in true crime stories then I definitely would recommend this book but be ready for some difficult and sometimes hard to listen to details of the crimes committed.

Historia
Lawrence Bittaker and Roy Norris, the Toolbox Killers, brought a level of terror that changed the way people carried out their daily lives. It was a time of innocence in California, where young girls could walk the streets or hitchhike along the freeways without a care or concern for their own safety, day or night. But that innocence and trust were to be shattered as five girls made the fatal mistake of accepting a ride from Bittaker and Norris. What started as a chance meeting in prison of these terrible men resulted in a murder spree that was planned right down to the finest details. They knew the type of victims they wanted, how they were going to abduct them, and what they were going to do to them. And they did everything they could to make their depraved fantasies come true. This true crime book includes chapters that explore the psychological make-up of these killers, and factors that may have influenced their twisted minds. How could these men inflict such horrific pain and suffering on their victims, and get away with it until five victims are left dead and scattered in a desolate canyon? What would have happened if Bittaker and Norris had never met? These famous serial killers were organized and sexually sadistic, and were responsible for some of the most horrendous true murders involving unimaginable torture in history. This is one of those true crime stories that will make you question humanity, and look twice at those who live among us.
