Historia
The origins of Covid-19 are shrouded in mystery. Scientists and government officials insisted, for a year and a half, that the virus had a natural origin, ridiculing anyone who dared contradict this view. Tech giants swept the internet, censoring and silencing debate in the most extreme fashion. Yet it is undeniable that a secretive facility in Wuhan was immersed in genetically manipulating bat-coronaviruses in perilous experiments. And as soon as the news of an outbreak in Wuhan leaked, the Chinese military took control and gagged all laboratory insiders.

Connects Many Streams of thought...
Revisado: 10-10-20
Probably one of the best books I've listened to and read in some time. Veith shows how many ideologies, philosophies, and trends connect together and how they are manifesting themselves in our current chaotic and confusing culture. He also gives paths forward and reaffirms an ultimate confidence in God's providence. Highly recommend...

Historia
In Artificial Unintelligence, Meredith Broussard argues that our collective enthusiasm for applying computer technology to every aspect of life has resulted in a tremendous amount of poorly designed systems. We are so eager to do everything digitally - hiring, driving, paying bills, even choosing romantic partners - that we have stopped demanding that our technology actually work. Broussard, a software developer and journalist, reminds us that there are fundamental limits to what we can (and should) do with technology.

Good but not the best
Revisado: 08-07-19
I'm very grateful for book like Brousard's that is helping to bring sanity to the industry and the limits of current AI and Machine Learning technologies. However, sometimes it was difficult to know whether Brousard was writing everything about the tech industry/culture she did not like or book the limits of the technology. Being in the industry and despite agreeing with some of her opinions, it really took away from the book. A lot more thorough book (not without it's own shortcomings) is Gary Smith's 'AI Delusion'.
Strengths
-Shows computers aren't magic boxes
-Common pitfalls of computers (i.e. the limits of plain math and statistica)
-Potential biases from the developers
Weaknesses
-Heavy cultural grievances
-Almost exclusively focused on current technology (i.e. not exploring the frontiers like current AGI research which is distinctly different than current tech and how non-deterministic Turing Machine like Quantum Computing may change things) She only covers humans in the loop computing.

Historia
We live in an incredible period in history. The computer revolution may be even more life-changing than the Industrial Revolution. We can do things with computers that could never be done before, and computers can do things for us that could never be done before. But our love of computers should not cloud our thinking about their limitations. The AI Delusion explains why we should not be intimidated into thinking that computers are infallible, that data-mining is knowledge discovery, and that black boxes should be trusted.

The non-obvious obvious
Revisado: 07-19-19
Having a background in economics the book hit home because most economics programs teach how to make models that make logical sense and emphasise the correlation is not causation among other pitfalls. Smith takes this background and demostrates the same lessons applied to the machine learning and AI world along with the corresponding dangers. My only criticism is he tends to repeat the same points over and over. I'm glad I listened to it and it gave me a different perspective on current technology.

Entertaining, Tragic, & Insightful Overview
Revisado: 05-05-19
I knew little about Queen Elizabeth II prior to listening to this production and I enjoyed thoroughly. The voice actors made listening engaging without a moment of boredom while the series of sexual affairs and unsightly scandals make it at times grievous to listen to, reminding the listener that broken legacies follow every family and making one to ponder how can be legacies be left behind and a walk in newness in life with a brighter legacies me sown. The course of Elizabeth life is woven with so many other historical events the listener will not be disappointed.

Historia
With the story of her conversion as a backdrop, Rosaria Butterfield invites us into her home to show us how God can use “radical, ordinary hospitality” to bring the Gospel to our lost friends and neighbors. Such hospitality sees our homes as not our own but as God’s tools for the furtherance of his kingdom as we welcome those who look, think, believe, and act differently from us into our everyday, sometimes messy lives - helping them see what true Christian faith really looks like.

Refreshing, Challenging, & Convicting
Revisado: 07-18-18
Christ calls us to die to self, to love Him in obedience and self sacrifice, yet somehow we miss this or worse ignore it. Seeing God's love manifest in the Butterfield's hospitality is refreshing, putting a desire to implement it my own life (and I have but nowhere to where they are)! Challenging because it is not something that I've thought a lot about and so I found myself wondering does this apply to every Christian in this sort of way? Maybe not in the exact form but it does apply! Convicting because I many times when I was bound to get mad or upset, it was because I saw being selfish and greedy with my time! my only criticism of the work is it was sometimes a bit long winded with its descriptive prose. In the end, the criticism is minor and it is almost paradoxical that a book that I had very strong emotional response both good and bad would get five stars but this is because it didn't affirm where I already was, it challenged me to greater obedience.

Hardly A Setence not Helpful or Convicting
Revisado: 05-01-18
Bonhoeffer addresses many issues that are thoroughly Biblical yet missing in my own life and I imagine in the life other Christians as well. For example, his perceptive insights on brotherly confession were not only insightful on many levels but thoroughly pratical. I highly commend this short listen to any Christian.

Historia
At one time, Corrie ten Boom would have laughed at the idea that she had a story to tell. For the first 50 years of her life, nothing out of the ordinary ever happened to her. She was a spinster watchmaker living contentedly with her sister and their elderly father in the tiny house over their shop in Haarlem. Their uneventful days, as regulated as their own watches, revolved around their abiding love for one another. But with the Nazi invasion and occupation of Holland, everything changed....

Overwhelming Account of Forgiveness for Enemies
Revisado: 07-18-17
An overwhelming account forgiveness, strength, and courage that is enabled by knowledge of the own misdeeds and murderous desires that forgiven by God through His son. The account tore me up in areas challenging me to think of I would have put my own life on the line to protects the Jews and others need or if I would have shown fellow prisoners such care even when I myself had nothing.
