Historia
It’s almost Christmas and Bunny McGarry is not in the festive spirit. His mood is not improved when an old friend becomes the victim of a violent assault and, for reasons he can’t understand, the police force he is a member of has decided not to investigate. Getting to the bottom of the case ends up putting him on the wrong side of some powerful people.

Revisado: 06-21-23
Bunny McGarry is a brilliant character! This hilarious story is wonderfully read. So glad this “trilogy” has continued beyond the standard 3 installments. I’ll be anxiously waiting for the next of Bunny’s adventures!

Historia
MCM Investigations are back! Although Brigit isn’t sure for how long. Money is tight, business is slow, and her partner, Paul, has been temporarily crippled due to her attempts to be in two places at once; one place being at the bottom of a ladder. It’s therefore manna from heaven when an old friend comes to them in need of help.

Interminable
Revisado: 06-16-21
That this novel is considered a classic is beyond me. It is painfully long and dreadfully boring. It’s characters, despite ample opportunity without depth or credibility. James’ view of women must have been both uninformed and shallow, clearly his opinion of them was dim if not overtly hateful.
Run away from this terrible book.

Historia
From 1915 to 1970, this exodus of almost six million people changed the face of America. Wilkerson compares this epic migration to the migrations of other peoples in history. She interviewed more than a thousand people, and gained access to new data and official records, to write this definitive and vividly dramatic account of how these American journeys unfolded, altering our cities, our country, and ourselves.

Brilliant & compelling history
Revisado: 08-20-20
This is a remarkable history. The combination of representative stories and intimate accounts of the lives of ordinary Americans escaping the Jim Crowe south is a work of compassionate genius. The performance of Ms. Miles is a marvel, her warm and sonorous voice gave life & empathy to her characters. I am a better person for having had the experience of this book.

Historia
The new Kings Lake Central murder squad is about to spend its first morning on team-building exercises and reviewing cold cases when the call comes in that the body of one of the city's rough sleepers has been found in a shop doorway. It happens, someone says, he isn't the first to die on the streets and he won't be the last, but the story the new team begins to uncover is far from routine.

War has come to Discworld...again. And, to no one's great surprise, the conflict centers around the small, insufferably arrogant, strictly fundamentalist duchy of Borogravia, which has long prided itself on its ability to beat up on its neighbors. This time, however, it's Borogravia that's getting its long-overdue comeuppance, which has left the country severely drained of young men.

This book has long been gap in my Dickens library... and would have been ponderous to read & keep the variety of recurring minor characters straight... but the reader was so remarkably able to create individual personalities that it was a much richer experience. .. such a delightful cast of characters, and so informative of Dickens' sensibilities. .. delightful!

Historia
Jane Austen's most popular novel, originally published in 1813, some 17 years after it was first written, presents the Bennet family of Longbourn. Against the background of gossipy Mrs. Bennet and the detached Mr. Bennet, the quest is on for husbands for the five daughters. The spotlight falls on Elizabeth, second eldest, who is courted by Darcy, though initially she is more concerned with the fate of her other sisters.
