Oleander Girl
Revisado: 07-08-24
Very enjoyable book, although quite predictable. Characters were well developed. The only “tiny” complaint was the narrator didn’t leave enough space when switching between characters. She’s delivering the setting in 3rd party, and then without even a hesitation begins the 1st person story of Kora, and it takes a couple of sentences to realize this. She needs to provide a bigger break between the acts. She was a great narrator though, loved her voice.

Historia
Having arrived at a certain age (her prime), Ann Leary casts a wry backward glance at a life spent trying—and often failing—to be nice. With wit and surprising candor, Leary recounts the bedlam of home bat invasions, an obsession with online personality tests, and the mortification of taking ballroom dance lessons with her actor husband. She describes hilarious red-carpet fiascos and other observations from the sidelines of fame, while also touching upon her more poignant struggles with alcoholism, her love for her family, her dogs, and so much more.

I’ve tried being Nice!
Revisado: 06-18-24
This was absolutely a fun fun book, and so relatable. Ann Leary is not only enjoyable in her writing, but her own narration was spot on!!!
I’ll admit I had never heard of this author, and I downloaded the book for free only because of the title, as that is my mantra daily! Haha . I was out of credits so looking for free audio books, and I have to say this was a delicious surprise. Very few times do I luck out on the freebies , but BINGO on this one. I’ve already purchased “The Good House” and several others of hers are on my wish list!
Funny, realistic, honest, heart warming and lovely! Thank you Ann Leary.

How Do I return this Book for a Credit ?
Revisado: 06-17-24
Amazon keeps changing how to return books for a credit. I typically love books by Lisa Wingate but I'm into chapter 10 and just can't get into it. No interest either with the story line or the narration. I wanted to delve into the history this book professes to provide, but it just hasn't developed and I want to move onto a different book. HOWEVER AMAZON has, once again, changed the format for returning audible books for credits. SHAME ON YOU AMAZON.

Historia
Growing up on the Navajo Indian Reservation, David Crow and his siblings idolized their dad. Tall, strong, smart, and brave, the self-taught Cherokee regaled his family with stories of his World War II feats. But as time passed, David discovered the other side of Thurston Crow, the ex-con with his own code of ethics that justified cruelty, violence, lies - even murder. A shrewd con artist with a genius IQ, Thurston intimidated David with beatings to coerce him into doing his criminal bidding. David's mom, too mentally ill to care for her children, couldn't protect him.

Pale Faced Lie. -
Revisado: 03-22-24
A stunning memoir! Heartbreak, frustration, anger, tears and some comfort to every one of the characters. David Crow has more humanity and goodness in his heart and soul than should be allowed! Forgiveness freed him from an unimaginable life with an evil hateful father, to give him the strength to support and yes, possibly even love his father as he was dying.
So very thankful I read this book, makes me want to examine my own heart and the slight injustices in my family that I hold resentment over. David Crow, you are a blessed human being. Thank you!!

Disappointed in this Robin Yocum book
Revisado: 03-16-24
After listening to “The Essay” and “Favorite Sons” by R. Yocum, both had great story lines that developed the characters greatly, along with fantastic narrators, my husband and I wanted to listen to more of his books.
Download this and should have returned within the first 1/2 hr. To me, the narrator didn’t help the story at all in voicing the various characters-just terrible! But, more so, I was so disappointed in this story compared to the others. The constant graphic vulgar concentration on affairs and sex was over the top and totally unnecessary. I couldn’t get a grasp on liking any of the individuals and what they were doing. The story held no interest, unless you wanted to find out who the next affair with Dana Marie would be with, and wanted to listen to the graphic details of how she performed.
Going to return if possible. Now, I’m afraid to listen to the last two of Yocums books I have on my wish list. If they are in the order of The Essay, which I loved, I’ll be satisfied, but afraid to purchase in case I’m stuck with another one like this.
And, the narrator can enhance or ruin a book. This narrator was a big bust!

This book is an honest and vulnerable first-person account of Celeste Edmunds a young woman who was raised by drug addict parents and, at a young age, learned to survive and protect her siblings among rapists and drug dealers. Eventually the state separated the family and Celeste was adopted, alone, into a dysfunctional, fractured home where she was treated, by a sadistic and manipulating mother, as an unwanted outsider.

What an emotional journey
Revisado: 02-24-24
It just broke me to hear what Celeste went through, I literally thought I might throw up a few times. I have to say, I gained so much respect for her to open herself up and share the dark things she herself did, betraying friends, alcohol, shoplifting etc. She didn’t candy-coat the choices she herself made, which many people would under these circumstances. She already had the readers great sympathy from hearing what she went through at no fault of her own, so she could have easily left out the negative revelation about the choices she made In survival, but she opened herself up 1000%. What a brave survivor. Celeste, you have earned your crown!!

Outstanding!!
Revisado: 01-03-24
I loved EVERYTHING about this book. The emotions, the questions of “what would I do?” And the jumping back and forth of who or what is wrong or right. The beautiful friendships and the challenges of a family relationship/friendship.
The narration was outstanding!!!!
I’m recommending to everyone!!

Historia
It's nearly Christmas, Julia Devine's favourite time of the year. She's just programmed a wonderful lead into the holidays at Sunny Street Cinema, which leaves her plenty of time to worry about going home to Cumbria for Christmas. Her mum and stepdad are fine, but the thought of spending another holiday with her awful stepsister Becca is enough to make a Scrooge out of anyone. When Becca calls to let her know about the dreamy pilot she's bringing to Christmas lunch, Julia finally snaps and does something very silly.

Just like watching Hallmark channel Christmas movies
Revisado: 12-30-23
Performance was good. The story was good even though the plot is the same as all other Christmas stories and it was easy to know within the first 10 min of listening how it would end. Just like watching Hallmark Christmas movies. No plot twist, but still a nice listen at Christmas time.

Touching Story - I THINK!
Revisado: 12-28-23
I suppose The story was a feel good to the heart- but I kept falling asleep while listening due to the narration. Just no emotion or fitting the characters. The first few times I fell asleep I returned to re-listen. Finally I said just get this over with! So I can’t even tell you of the story was that good but the narration was not!! Husband liked it though as we were listening together.

Couldn’t get into the story
Revisado: 10-20-23
This is the 2nd Boo Walker book I’ve purchased but never finished. I won’t make the mistake a 3rd time.
1) narrator was good had no problems there.
2) the author had the 8 year old daughter holding conversations and feelings that were not realistic for her age. I felt she was more an older teen not an 8 yr old. That was an irritation.
2) after the 6th chapter I decided the author was getting paid by the word! He had the characters going over and over again with same thoughts, same conversations. The book quickly became boring.
3) The characters were never developed.
4) I stopped the book at chapter 6-wasted money, wasted time.
