I learned a lot. Somehow, despite the horrors, an easy listen. Will listen again, might even look for a paperback.

I’m sure many literary officionados will argue with me, but I felt that this story was incredibly banal and nearly pointless. I typically read non-fiction, thought I’d give Hemingway a go; glad I tried but will not entertain another most likely. The story was pleasant, almost like background noise. Perhaps that was the goal of the author; a realistic portrayal of a man and his group of friends’ journey for a week or two.

Another hit for Pinker. He went from “Who’s that?” to one of my favorite authors after 2 (admittedly lengthy) books. This book makes a terrific case for secular values, compassion, and evidenced-based decision making in medicine, politics, and all sorts of pertinent matters. I couldn’t recommend this more to anyone who claims to be rational, current, cosmopolitan, anti-intellectual, a scientist, a science denier, or those who simply want to take stalk in human progress as assessed by quantitative metrics and care reasoning.
