Like better than Babel
Revisado: 07-04-24
The biggest hurdle for me is being able to respond in Italian. This course gives it to you in English and you answer in Italian which, in my opinion, does more to train you to think in Italian rather than translating in your mind. That is the dreaded freeze while you're trying to answer. However, they speak a normal fast Italian and without pausing and downright slowing the speed when you need to it can get really frustrating. I tried Babel first and I like this better. Babel is a memory game and really not a bad second language tool but cannot be used in the car or while exercising, etc. Pimsleur provides no visuals whatsoever which I find a bit of drawback as it would be nice to see some of the dialogue and that's where Babel has the advantage. I like the printed conversation drill in Babel and also being able - once again - to listen to fast talking Italians but able to read along while they do.

Excellent
Revisado: 06-12-22
This is a perfect book for beginner and expert alike. Enough information to know who and most important WHAT Henry Clay was. The period reminded me of today with extremes ruling each party with those in the center hoping to keep the country united. We could use Henry Clay today.

Historia
Americans wage many of today’s fiercest policy debates and culture wars over constitutional meaning. It’s because constitutional law is so fundamental to our democracy that law schools across the country teach the subject. It's the area of law that determines what federal and state governments are permitted to do, and what rights you have as an individual citizen of the US. Here, you'll get the same accessible, well-rounded introduction to constitutional law as a typical law student - but with the added benefit of noted constitutional scholar Eric Berger's brilliant insights.

Historia
The life of John Marshall, founding father and America's premier chief justice. In 1801, a genial and brilliant Revolutionary War veteran and politician became the fourth chief justice of the US. He would hold the post for 34 years (still a record), expounding the Constitution he loved. Before he joined the Court, it was the weakling of the federal government, lacking in dignity and clout. After he died, it could never be ignored again.

A necessity in the study of our Constitution.
Revisado: 09-04-20
While we may know Madison as the father (one of) the Constitution, Marshal raised it out of infancy. Impressed by his balance and discipline yet disappointed on his view of slavery. This book is essential. This is one you'll study.

Text book style review.
Revisado: 08-26-20
This is a sentence by sentence review which I believe is helpful for anyone really wanting to learn about the Constution. Narrator does his best but I found the reading of Roman numerals off putting (just me). Eye, then eye,eye...then eye, eye, eye. Then eye vee, then vee, etc. Weird?

Historia
Chief Justice Rehnquist's engaging writing illuminates both the high and low points in the Court's history, from Chief Justice Marshall's dominance of the Court during the early 19th century through the landmark decisions of the Warren Court. Citing cases such as the Dred Scott decision and Roosevelt's Court-packing plan, Rehnquist makes clear that the Court does not operate in a vacuum, that the justices are unavoidably influenced by their surroundings, and that their decisions have real and lasting impacts on our society.

Read this if you know nothing about Polk
Revisado: 10-30-19
I have spent most of my time reading about the founding, the Founders, etc and recently ventured out of that category. Saw this title and figured why not learn about a period through the biography of a president I am not familiar with. This period is eye opening both because it completes our expansion but also sets the stage for the worst period in US History.

Historia
Holmes twice escaped death as a young Union officer in the Civil War when musket balls barely missed his heart and spinal cord. He lived ever after with unwavering moral courage, scorn for dogma, and an insatiable intellectual curiosity. Named to the Supreme Court by Theodore Roosevelt at age 61, he served for nearly three decades, writing a series of famous, eloquent, and often dissenting opinions that would prove prophetic in securing freedom of speech, protecting the rights of criminal defendants, and ending the Court's reactionary resistance to social and economic reforms.

you will certainly come to know OWH the man as well as the Justice but I don't think anyone will ever be able to Define him using today's political Spectrum. this book brings you closer understanding but I found myself looking up the cases described as sometimes I had a hard time following the reasoning behind some of the conclusions spelled out by the author. that's not to take anything away from this author who took a very difficult task. definitely not for the Casual reader but definitely worth the challenge
