Historia
Quinn Quicksilver was born a mystery—abandoned at three days old on a desert highway in Arizona. Raised in an orphanage, never knowing his parents, Quinn had a happy if unexceptional life. Until the day of “strange magnetism.” It compelled him to drive out to the middle of nowhere. It helped him find a coin worth a lot of money. And it practically saved his life when two government agents showed up in the diner in pursuit of him. Now Quinn is on the run from those agents and who knows what else, fleeing for his life.

Zero emotional connection to the characters
Revisado: 02-18-22
I usually enjoy Dean Koontz books, but this one fell completely flat for me. I just didn't really care about what happened to the characters, and events unfolded with such good luck for the protagonists at every turn that I could not suspend my disbelief. Although his stories often follow the same kind of formula, this book just came off as weak tea: reused.

Historia
The Black Dahlia Murder is near legend in the annals of true crime. But behind the shocking case of a young actress’s gruesome slaying lies the story of another woman. Was Fauna Hodel the child of incest and the catalyst for a sensational trial that left her well-to-do family scarred by scandal, even as the accused sexual predator walked free? Taken as an infant from her teenage mother, Fauna was placed in the care of a working-class black woman who raised the white child as her own.

Underwhelming
Revisado: 08-21-19
I got this as a daily deal and at first was intrigued by the premise and Fauna's unique and disturbing childhood, but the story soon turned self-indulgent and like a long narrative to a therapist. The book ends with no real answers, no revelations about the twisted family, no closure for Fauna or the readers. It left me wishing I hadn't wasted the time it took to listen. Disappointing

Good chakra primer, terrible pronunciation
Revisado: 05-18-18
I am new to knowledge on chakras, so got this audio book as something to introduce myself to the basics of chakras. The information is presented well, in an organized and not too dense format, but the listening experience was frustrating, since the narrator was clearly given no education regarding pronunciation of even the most simple Sanskrit words. They should have chosen someone who has gone to even one yoga class and could at least say "asana" correctly, or 'sacral", or any number of the words that were butchered in this production. So, if you want a quick listen to familiarize yourself with the topic, it's a good text, but you'll have to go elsewhere to hear the words spoken as they were intended

Historia
"Ninety-five days, and then I'll be safe. I wonder whether the procedure will hurt. I want to get it over with. It's hard to be patient. It's hard not to be afraid while I'm still uncured, though so far the deliria hasn't touched me yet. Still, I worry. They say that in the old days, love drove people to madness. The deadliest of all deadly things: It kills you both when you have it and when you don't."

Historia
With courage, grace, and powerful insight, bestselling author Kristin Hannah captures the epic panorama of World War II and illuminates an intimate part of history seldom seen: the women's war. The Nightingale tells the stories of two sisters, separated by years and experience, by ideals, passion and circumstance, each embarking on her own dangerous path toward survival, love, and freedom in German-occupied, war-torn France—a heartbreakingly beautiful novel that celebrates the resilience of the human spirit and the durability of women. It is a novel for everyone, a novel for a lifetime.

Underwhelmed and often irritated
Revisado: 02-03-16
Would you try another book from Kristin Hannah and/or Polly Stone?
Sure. The writing was good, as was the narration.
Was The Nightingale worth the listening time?
Not quite.
Any additional comments?
I really liked the first part of this book, and got invested in the story quickly. The trouble is that I grew to really dislike Isabelle. As she evolved, she didn't seem to mature as much as I expected, and would have liked, as her situation changed. She appeared impetuous and selfish to the end. Even as she performed heroic acts, it seemed more the actions of an adrenaline junky, and a girl finally getting some positive feedback after being somewhat neglected as a child, than a mature, altruistic woman. Her sister Vianne was a saint to put up with her obnoxious, self-centered behavior, and to stand by her after her stupid actions near the end. It's hard to fully like a book when one of the heroines frustrates one so much.
