The achingly beautiful and brutal story of India where there is no modernity yet, religious classes, oppression of women, and mob mentality are depicted as alive and well. The narration and protaganist are totally engaring. Don't pass this one up, it will stay with you, as all Thriry's books do.

John Boyne does not disappoint in his follow up to 'The Boy in the Striped Pajamas. Central character is redeemable in the fact that she holds herself accountable through decades of grief. Riveting listen.
