Historia
In late March 1944, as Stalin’s forces push into Ukraine, young Emil and Adeline Martel must make a terrible decision: Do they wait for the Soviet bear’s intrusion and risk being sent to Siberia? Or do they reluctantly follow the wolves - murderous Nazi officers who have pledged to protect “pure-blood” Germans? The Martels are one of many families of German heritage whose ancestors have farmed in Ukraine for more than a century.

Ukrainian Americans Endure
Revisado: 06-19-22
Sullivan reminds us to preserve a belief in family, faith, and western freedom. At a time when Ukraine is under such pressure to defend itself, this beautiful story is a reminder that today's fighters descend from tough people who survived a hidden famine, two world wars and the rise of communism but never gave up. The characters embody the love of a mother, the bond of marriage and the innocence and inspiration of children. It touches the heart, especially as blue and yellow flags checker the US in support of the ongoing war with Russia.

Historia
This brilliant adaptation of the ancient masterpiece The Art of War shows women how to use Sun Tzu's philosophy to win in every aspect of life. In the West, when we think of war, we imagine battle, casualties, brutality. But Sun Tsu, who wrote The Art of War 2,500 years ago, was Chinese, and their view of war is not about fighting. It is about determining the most efficient way of gaining victory with the least amount of conflict.

A different take on feminine roles in business
Revisado: 06-01-20
This has a ethnocentric lens that helps recognize differences and strengths of American and Chinese culture that provides valuable insight but may not be appropriate in all work place environments. Good for rising business women looking to get an edge in new markets.

quotable and impactful

i was intrigued by the reasons why women aren't joining in tech industries these days and the importance of logic traps that prevent women from their moment of lift in the workplace....in the words of Brene Brown, the Obstacle becomes the solution. video games for women!
I appreciated her willingness to write and orate this book while Bill did the Netflix series. Tackling both mediums at once is a one two punch.
Collectively they are a couple from this generation that will be remembered for their altruism and faith to make hard investments in innovation and heart felt listening of all people that others lack the courage to embark upon resulting in a journey that will eventually- strategically -overcome poverty....I cried at the thought of a million teenagers a year suffering mother-baby mortality. Farming discussions, contraception discussions, child marriage discussions, faith discussions....the spirit of real Americans doing real good work for the world making momentous strides to change us all for the better. read this book and help me extend her words. Melinda, one day I hope to work for your foundation because of the inspiring work and hard journeys ahead that you have laid the groundwork for.

He delves candidly into the intersection of history, leadership, and his own experience to produce a book of enduring value. Joining the troubled post-Vietnam army as a young officer, McChrystal witnessed and participated in some of our military’s most difficult struggles. He describes the many outstanding leaders he served with and the handful of bad leaders he learned not to emulate.

Good but not great
Revisado: 06-15-15
This book is intended more for a military audience. There are many acronyms and jargon that may be cumbersom to keep up with if you aren't familiar with a lot of the phrases typical in military circles.

Historia
In May 2003, President George W. Bush declared victory in Iraq. But while we won the war, we catastrophically lost the peace. Our failure prompted a fundamental change in our foreign policy. Confronted with theshortcomings of "shock and awe", the U.S. military shifted its focus to"stability operations": counterinsurgency and the rebuilding of failed states. In less than a decade, foreign assistance has become militarized; humanitarianism has been armed.

These are some of the crucial questions that Ahmed Rashid—Pakistan’s preeminent journalist—takes on in this follow-up to his acclaimed Descent into Chaos.

Good introduction to current events
Revisado: 06-15-15
I really liked the questions posed by the author and possible solutions to the future. Reading this book gives a novice on South Eastern politics a plunge into what happened in the last decade and how it will impact the current generation and the decade ahead. It's an easy, relatively quick audible book. Pakistan on the Brink really helps capture the so - what of America's decisions now and how they'll ultimately impair or improve the deep rooted problems that plague this historically rich cultural region.

Historia
With rapid globalization, the world is more deeply interconnected than ever before. While this has its advantages, it also brings with it systemic risks that are only just being identified and understood. Rapid urbanization, together with technological leaps, such as the Internet, mean that we are now physically and virtually closer than ever in humanity's history. We face a number of international challenges - climate change, finance, pandemics, cyber security, and migration - which spill over national boundaries.

Very good overview of governance and cyber securit
Revisado: 02-18-15
This book seemed to lack depth in the topics but was an overall good introduction to world governance. I wouldve liked a longer book that really tackled what needs to be done in the future instead of repeating the same reasons for how world leaders are inefficient and ineffective. We all know that. We see it in the news daily. What are some realistic concrete solutions from someone who works in these institutions and how can change be driven from the inside out? Also, the voice is British and kinda boring. Hard to follow for a typical young American.
