Historia
Where the Light Fell is a gripping family narrative set against a turbulent time in post-World War II America, shaped by the collision of Southern fundamentalism with the mounting pressures of the civil rights movement and '60s-era forces of social change. In piecing together his fragmented personal history and his search for redemption, Yancey gives testament to the enduring power of our hunger for truth and the possibility of faith rooted in grace instead of fear.

This memoir offered healing
Revisado: 10-23-23
I researched books about religious deconstruction and this one came up, so I purchased it. Philip offers words through his own life experience that have provided validation and healing in my heart. I had no context going in to this book and found it was exactly what I needed with where I am in my own spiritual journey. He has made me feel far less alone in the myriad of emotions and thoughts that come up for someone who has experienced so much harm from religious institutions, and weaves a path back to God Grace. I recommend this to anyone who has is struggling with religious trauma who still wants to believe in Jesus’ love, despite the pain inflicted on them by Christians.

Powerfully Human
Revisado: 02-28-23
I saw a lot of myself and my upbringing in Megan’s story. Existence is a complicated journey and a matter of both heart and mind. I felt less alone grappling with these big questions, while reading. Everyone, believer or non, could benefit from reading/listening to her story. The world may be a better, more understanding place if we all did.

Interesting Story but narration wasn’t for me.
Revisado: 01-20-23
I enjoyed most of the storyline, although some details of the mystery were not completely tied up at the end. I won’t give away what they are. Mostly, I found the narrators style too breathy and no diversity of voice whatsoever between the male characters.

Historia
It’s been a decade since Trumanell Branson disappeared, leaving only a bloody handprint behind. Her pretty face still hangs like a watchful queen on the posters on the walls of the town’s Baptist church, the police station, and in the high school. They all promise the same thing: We will find you. Meanwhile, Tru's brother, Wyatt, lives as a pariah in the desolation of the old family house, cleared of wrongdoing by the police but tried and sentenced in the court of public opinion and in a new documentary about the crime.

Annoying
Revisado: 12-15-22
I seldom feel this way but I felt the authors writing style was very annoying and trying to force and style that just wasn’t working. The narration didn’t help. I kept finding myself so annoyed by it after almost 3 hours in, I finally called it quits.

Historia
The Poisonwood Bible is a story told by the wife and four daughters of Nathan Price, a fierce, evangelical Baptist who takes his family and mission to the Belgian Congo in 1959. They carry with them everything they believe they will need from home, but soon find that all of it - from garden seeds to Scripture - is calamitously transformed on African soil. What follows is a suspenseful epic of one family’s tragic undoing and remarkable reconstruction over the course of three decades in postcolonial Africa.

Incredibly insightful and beautifully written
Revisado: 09-02-21
Being a missionary’s daughter, this book has meant so much to me from validating my upbringing, challenging my beliefs and expanding my understanding of how white Christian supremacy left it’s scars on the world, but especially Africa. Captivating and detailed, I’d recommend this book to any and all.

Historia
Have you ever wondered "Why did I do that?" or "Why can't I just control my behavior?" Others may judge our reactions and think, "What's wrong with that person?" When questioning our emotions, it's easy to place the blame on ourselves; holding ourselves and those around us to an impossible standard. It's time we started asking a different question. Through deeply personal conversations, Oprah Winfrey and renowned brain and trauma expert Dr. Bruce Perry offer a groundbreaking and profound shift from asking “What’s wrong with you?” to “What happened to you?”

I must have book on your body love journey
Revisado: 04-04-21
Stephanie’s book give us a lens that our culture is in desperate need to understand. Her story is both heart breaking and heart warming and utterly healing and eye opening. As an eating disorder clinician in a white-washed system, this book is absolutely essential for ALL people, regardless of color, ability or size, to read — but especially for souls donning fat black bodies. I loved this book, I will be using it with clients and am very thankful for the long lists of current resources from influencers, to research, to clothing brands that I can lend to my clients to help them feel more seen, empowered, and cared for. Thank you Stephanie!
