Love this series
Revisado: 10-07-20
I’d previously read this book, so knew I loved it already. The performance is good, but the narrator makes Mercy & Jessie sound a little more whiny weak with her tone & inflections than I prefer. Mercy is strong & independent, & I felt her dialogue should have reflected that a bit more. But otherwise, very good. Oh, and I wasn’t crazy about the musical intro. It competed with the reading for a few minutes too long right at the start. After that the only music is right at the end, but that wasn’t interruptive.

Historia
Now that Pern can look forward to a future without the threat of Threadfall, the people are free to leave their protective stone holds and spread across more of the planet, as well as improve their lives with the newly discovered ancient technology. Not everyone is happy, though. Some resist the change, and consider anything new to be an "abomination".

Sword of Truth, as always, a great series

Great series, as always. Very sad the TV show didn't work out - maybe had they actually followed the books...but oh, well.
I've read the vast majority of the series through at least once, maybe twice, and wanted a lengthy audiobook that was great to listen to. This totally fit the bill. Good narrator, great story. The only thing I don't like, and this tends to happen in most books I've heard - strong female characters tend to sound a little whiney & weak. I think it's just a dude thing. Not a big deal, but noticeable because of the difference of how they sounded in my head when I first read it. Others are obviously going to interpret that differently and a man intoning a female character - it's bound to happen.
Otherwise, a great performance.

Historia
Echoes of the ancients' power are distant memories, tattered and faded by the passage of eons, but that is about to change. A new dawn has arrived. Latent abilities, harbored in mankind's deepest fibers, wait to be unleashed. Ancient evils awaken, and old fears ignite the fires of war. Call of the Herald is book one of The Dawning of Power trilogy.

Good Book, meh Narration

I've already read most of this series, wanted background noise that's better than just music, but less attention grabbing than tv/movies - if that makes any sense. So I like the books enough to want to read/listen to them again. I didn't like the narrator. He was so monotone that it wasn't as enjoyable as hoped. He did well with character voices, and added emotion and inflection there, but the rest of the reading was rather boring, kinda like listening to an automated voice reading. Really glad I didn't pay full price for that audiobook.
