Historia
In glittery 1980s Los Angeles, once-celebrated Broadway lyricist Beau Kellogg is disillusioned, unhappily married and yearning for one last musical hit, while he writes advertising jingles for quick money. Meanwhile, in New York, idealistic young singer, Amanda Harary, works a demanding day job at a charming West Side hotel. From their first fiery phone conversation, sparks fly, and when they begin to talk late at night, miracles begin to happen.

not terrible but not my favorite....
Revisado: 11-06-20
It was a very well written novel but the age gap and themes throughout were a little weird. I didn't feel like it was particularly romantic nor that the romantic parts were very effusive.
The novel takes place during the 1980s, which means, as a 23 year old, there were some scenarios that made me feel indignant and not necessarily something I think will hold up.
As an audiobook, I think the POV changes were a little abrupt at times. I couldn't always tell what POV was talking at which moment.
Besides that, the book was very enjoyable. The sneak peeks behind that red curtain of Broadway was a delight and the way the author was able to entwine a love story and a coming of age story within that world was marvelous.
I just couldn't support the relationship. not really. I felt kinda grossed out by the age gap because that's about the age gap between my father and I and thats a hard solid no.
But I freely admit that's not my thing and if you don't feel bothered by trivial things like age then STEALING FIRE is definitely for you!

Great listen and amazing writing
Revisado: 06-11-20
The journey from amazing marriage to trying to grow as a person after several jarring events was absolutely amazing.
I’m still not used to audiobooks and this one had sex scenes so it was doubly weird but that still didn’t take away from the way it was written and how the characters flourished.
The narrator, Felicia Palmer, was extremely good. She did accents and voices for the different characters and she rocked the first person POV. The descriptions of the feelings Cristiana goes through as she battles the confusing emotions between herself, Owen and Beau were absolutely perfect. I was awestruck and couldn’t stop listening.
The Ticket builds on a very old premise. In fact, Owen Wilson starred in a movie about this very thing. A “hall pass” so that if and when your significant other meets the person they find very attractive, most of the time being a celebrity, they have permission from their spouse to one night with them.
The war inside Cristiana was amazingly described and posed an age long question about cheating in a relationship. A little different from a hall pass but similar premise nonetheless. It was a somewhat predictable twist at the end but it was written so well, I ain’t even mad.

This is a Winterdream
Revisado: 02-17-20
This is my first audiobook for review so please be gentle with your thoughts at the end.
Ironically, I legit just watched Nutcracker and the Four Realms so the timing for this could not have been funnier.
Audiobooks, to me, are a bit of an inconvenience. Mainly because it requires me to have a generally quiet atmosphere and no distractions so that I can concentrate on what’s going through my ears. Winterdream was the same issue. Even still it was surprisingly enjoyable.
The narrator, Anne Marie Lewis, had a very soothing voice, which was not great for me because my brain kept telling me to sleep, but it was very pleasant otherwise. The language was extremely descriptive, which was weird to hear out loud.
The characters were very well developed. The plot likewise. Honestly, it was one of the best retellings for The Nutcracker ever. I loved it. And I’m really picky about my retellings. This one hit all the marks though.
It had imaginative tangents while still remaining truthful to the original story but not just reiterating the story all over again. Honestly, Winterdream was such a great read. Y’all gotta check it out!
