This is basics for everyone, and a great starting place and springboard. I think every HS or college grad should be given a copy. I wish I had known this information back then, and had started sooner in personal finance literacy.

I found this lecture tedious. I don’t know if it’s the subject matter or the lecturer. I did okay in basic college economics, getting A’s in both micro and macro. But this lecture really was boring. I tried several times to listen, and just found myself zoning out and thinking about other things, and that’s not typically me. I suppose if the subject already excites you, or you have some background in it, you’ll enjoy it. But I didn’t enjoy it, and I really wanted to...

This didn’t resonate for me. It’s not the best by Chogyam Trungpa, in my opinion. I would much more recommend his “Shambhala, The Sacred Path of the Warrior.” That book changed my life.

What disappointed you about Narcissistic Abuse and the Narcissism Epidemic: Losing Your Sanity to Overt and Covert Manipulation Tactics?

This book was terrible. It sounded like someone's diary entry about an ex-boyfrend, and was not in any way scholarship or psychology. This author was making general rules about particular experiences, which may or may not be true about all narcissists. And the worst part was it was just a list of these experiences, almost like bullet points: the narcissist is...blah, blah, blah. Terrible book. I am going to see if I can return it. Not helpful.

Any additional comments?

This was a pretty good intro to meditation and mindfulness. I have read extensively on these sujbects and found the professor knowledgable and trustworthy. I bought this for a friend.

Any additional comments?

I tried three times to get through this. Just couldn't even get through Camus, and I love Camus. Much better off just reading the originals on your own. Sorry to be harsh.

I was so impressed by this social critique of the the modern cult of positive thinking in America. It literally blew my mind. I was a political philosophy major in college, and found this on equal par with many mainstream and academic critiques. It was a comprehensive and researched critique of politics, economics, religion, and society under the spell of purely positive, and new age, magical thinking. Even in the FB world, anything or anyone not entirely positive gets marginalized. She doesn't argue against positive thinking, just that we need to stay realistic if we're going to solve our problems. This is an important and valid critique, and very much worth a read.

I have read many different books on meditation. Some are extremely esoteric and philosophically complicated, aimed at becoming enlightened or a bodhisattva. This was beautifully practical, and kind of aimed at more earthly beings, like me, who need help finding equanimity in every day challenges. I have been going through an extremely tough time, caring for my elderly mother with dementia. I discovered, the loving kindness mediation, directed at myself first (!!!) gives me the patience and equanimity to deal with all the difficulties and challenges. I also had the insight, that what this world needs more than anything right now is loving kindness. May all beings live in peace.

This is just an endless series of disconnected aphorisms and observations, and so, I didn't enjoy it at all. The title suggests they are perhaps some kind of guided, daily meditations. Not at all. Just the string of aphorisms.
