Historia
A vibrant and powerful epic set against an alternate Bronze Age, this tale of gods, men and monsters, conspiracy and war, is a rich, compelling and original tale from a master of the historical and fantasy genres. The people caught up in toils of the gods are merely trying to survive. Victims of vicious whims, trapped by their circumstances or pushed beyond what the mortal frame can bear, a handful of god-touched mortals—a scribe, a warlord, a dancer and a child - are about to be brought together in a conspiracy of their own.

Loved the book by the end. I’m not the best with names and the names in this book didn’t make it easy for me to enjoy for the first few hours. By the end I got used to them and loved it.

Great, but should have been book 3 in a 4 book series
Revisado: 11-06-24
Great narration and writing as usual, but I agree with the other reviewers that the ending felt very rushed and wasn’t given an appropriate amount of time. There should have been a 4th book dedicated to the ‘final battle’ instead of what we got. Only other complaint is that while it was nice to have the protagonists from the other trilogies mentioned/shown. There was little impact. A 4th book would have allowed for more interaction between all of the protagonists that would have been interesting to read. All said, I’m still very much looking forward to future novels taking place in this world.

Good, but…
Revisado: 07-19-24
*Spoilers Ahead* Great book as always. Well written and narrated. My biggest issue with the book is that 70ish percent of the book just feels like the characters treading water and not much substantive happening outside a few key events. Beyond that the villain faction of the book is hardly in the book besides a bit in the beginning and the end. I had been looking forward to the D’Niss since they were mentioned in book one. Would have been nice to have actually had an entire book dedicated to them. Their treatment made me feel like they were just there so we could keep the trend going of one ‘big bad’ defeated per book. Feels like a missed opportunity. A book filled with a D’Niss invasion and the team having to handle it would have been amazing. Instead we got a book about the perfected and zenith devices where the swarm queen just happens to die at the end.

Historia
Reidon Ward's first semester at the Galens Institute hasn't been without reward. In just over half a year he's gone from the weakest cadet at school to one of the strongest in his class, and there's no one left who would argue that his Device, Shido, isn't the most terrifying CAD they've ever laid eyes on. Still, Rei knows that his climb has barely begun, like he knows that the true fight is only just starting. After all… The Sectionals tournament has arrived. Rei, along with Aria, Viv, Catcher, and a couple unexpected squadmates, are about to face the first real battle of their careers.

What Happened????
Revisado: 12-12-23
Went into this book immediately after rereading the first and not looking at any reviews. I was severely disappointed with the vast majority of the book. As other reviews have mentioned, this book is missing all of the fun combat and progression from the first and is instead 90% drama. Most of which wouldn’t have happened if the characters acted like reasonable people. The combat when it did happen was usually okay, but not fantastic.
The characters themselves seemed very one-dimensional as well. Viv was just angry 24/7, Logan was a mopey mess, and etc. It would have been nice if the drama actually lead to the character showing a different side of themselves, but that didn’t happen. Also some of the big revelations were things I easily predicted when reading the first book nothing surprising.
Weird thing as well is I felt there was a lot of ‘virtue signaling’ in this book. While there was some LGBTQ characters in the first book it wasn’t made a focus. Which in my opinion is the best way to do it. In this book it was very much in your face and dropped in your lap way more often than I would say necessary. I get it the world has diverse people of different sexualities, doesn’t mean I need it in my face 24/7 or that it does anything to improve a character. *Minor Spoiler* Worst offender of this was the drop dead beautiful woman who ends up having a short conversation with a longtime mentor that only served to point out she was transgender. Pretty sure her mentor was well aware of that and it didn’t actually do anything to improve on or expand the character. Just diversity to check a box.
That being said I still will buy and listen to the next book in the series. The first held a lot of promise and I hope the author sees reviews like this and makes the necessary changes to make the series fun again as there’s a lot in the world they’ve made that would be interesting to get to, but not if I have to listen to endless pointless drama to get there.

Great as always!
Revisado: 12-02-23
Great as always. Parts felt a little rushed comparatively and I think this could have been fleshed out more into two separate books. Overall still fantastic. Still one of my top series alongside Wheel of Time and The Expanse.
*SPOILERS AHEAD*
Still hoping that this isn’t the last we see of the group from Cradle. Would love to see more stories of them now that they’ve ascended. Definitely a group of characters I’ve come to love over the years. Hopefully this isn’t the end of their story.

Too Short
Revisado: 09-22-22
A good book in a series I’ve enjoyed. The main problem I had with the series was in this book and the book before. The ending to this all, while good, felt very rushed and not fleshed out as much as I would have wanted. I feel that this series could have used another book in it to flesh out the horde more and give more time to the characters interacting and figuring out how to work together.

Was in between series when I saw this and decided to take a chance on it. Very pleased I did and I can’t wait to finish the rest of the series. There were some minor inconsistencies I noticed a few of, but overall the writing was solid with good narration. 10/10 would recommend.

Could have been great
Revisado: 03-02-22
Well written, but the author’s religious views and desire to make a case for why and how “god” exists for 6 hours unfortunately ruined the back portion of the book for me. Not against religion in a book or characters finding god, but it’s a shame a great series ended like this because the author wanted to preach to the reader.

Absolutely Fantastic
Revisado: 11-08-21
As always the narration was 11/10 perfect as always.
If you’ve kept up with Cradle to this point you absolutely need to read this one ASAP. More of all of the characters we’ve grown to love and the story is just great and takes you down some unexpected, but delightful, paths. Saw some of the reveal at the end coming before it happened, but that didn’t stop me from smiling like an idiot and pacing my house listening to the last 45min when I was supposed to be working. I can’t praise it enough. I listen to alot of fantasy and sci-fi audiobooks and I can easily say that this was one of my top 3 favorite listens for the year and is the number one funnest listen.
For those of you who went to this page because it’s a new release and are interested and somehow you found this review all I have to say to you is one thing. Go spend a credit on Unsouled and work your way here you’ll be happy you did and you can then join the rest of us in suffering while we wait for the next book.

Authors need to stop switch narrators
Revisado: 09-25-21
Great and wonderful third installment in the series. The weakest point of this audiobook is unfortunately the narrator, as I’m sure you’ve read in other reviews. While not the worst narrator, I found that most of their characters lost their individuality as the narrator did little to differentiate their voices and at times the characters seemed very different due to how he chose he decided to act them. Wish he had done some research on the previous narrator and tried to keep things somewhat consistent.
