Almighty: Allmachtig is a compelling, well-researched story about an orphanage caretaker during the rise of the Nazi party. The author really immerses the reader in the pre-WWII setting, and the struggles of the characters really resonate.

Instead of focusing on the Jewish Holocaust, as the vast majority of this genre does, this book instead focuses on the equally tragic eugenics programs and handicapped genocide of the Nazi party.

But it's not all history - the main plot also goes deep into the compelling characters and their interpersonal relationships.

If you enjoy historical fiction, you won't want to miss this one!

If your children love fantasy, and love to read about little fairies that poop silver coins, this is the book for them.

A young boy, frustrated with his little sister’s pranks and bullied by the bigger boys in town, dreams of becoming a mighty knight someday.

His dreams may just be realized when he meets a friendly dragon who offers him an apprenticeship. Together with a stammering hobgoblin, they undertake quests and study the fundamentals of magic.

The main character, Hiw, is a fairly endearing young man. At the beginning of the book, we find that he has conflict with both his sister and some local bullies, which sets him up for a grand character arc.

The narrator was very appropriately cast for this book. Her ability to vary her voice between children, adults, dragons, and brownies was truly talented.

Although I prefer more cohesive stories with a single, paced plot, I still enjoyed The Federation Trilogy. It's packaged as three short stories/novellas in a single book, perhaps to make sure the customer gets his money's worth from the audiobook.

I'm guessing that the main character, Max, is something of a self-insert. While I was reading, I assumed that the author had some military/police background that he was drawing from, and I didn't notice that the MC had his middle name until after I finished listening. It didn't really turn me away, though, because Max is far from being a Gary Stu-type protagonist. I found him believable and sincere in his background and philosophy.

The relationship between Max and his best friend is complicated and goes through some severe hurdles, which I enjoyed reading about. The relationship between Max and his wife, less so. I don't think there was any substantial dialogue between them in the entire book; their marriage seemed built on physical attraction alone.

The book ends rather abruptly, which makes me think that the author has a sequel in mind. If so, I'm looking forward to further adventures of this inter-species buddy-cop duo.

I also thought the narrator did an excellent job, especially with the sea-shanties written into the chapters. Those songs were fun to listen to.

If you like political intrigue and combat in outer space, with intriguing alien species, I'm sure you'll love The Federation Trilogy.

It was a great take on the Strasbourg Dancing Epidemic. Great characters, interesting twist, vivid imagery!
