Historia
In 2059, two vastly different groups of people portrayed by the compelling trio of Brendan Fraser (Academy Award winner), Luke Kirby (Emmy Award winner), and Vanessa Sears (Dora Award winner) undergo cryonic suspension. While their bodies are frozen, their minds, still active and awake, are uploaded into a massive quantum computer. The first group are all astronauts, about to leave Earth on a one-way interstellar colonization mission. The second group consists of convicted murderers and volunteers who elect to serve their sentences in a virtual-reality prison.

A weird way to discuss modern politics and world views.
Revisado: 07-25-24
It did not take me long to realize this was not a book about future people surviving on a post apocalyptic earth. Instead this was a not so sophisticated way to moralize about modern politics. I dont mind reading works with a different perspective from my own. However in this work these characters are just props to deliver the lines. I did not find any other characters to have redeeming qualities. The performances were okay, though I did expect more acting. at times and certain performers felt more like enthusiastic reading, even when discussing dark subject matter.
That aside I found the world building and setting to have so many holes it felt too niavely constructed just to fit the narrative. I could not suspend my disbelief. I also did not enjoy the way the story was laid out, in a series of interviews which transition into the story itself. It gave me a rushed feel and I dont think any character got a proper introduction or development.
this wasn't for me.

Amazing
Revisado: 06-09-23
Dennis E. Taylor and Ray Porter are the best combo for writing and performance. the wit in Taylor's writing matches perfectly with the delivery of Porter.
As for the story it is a very fun and entertaining story, I think avoiding spoilers or even descriptions are best for all of Taylor's writings, all of which are the best works of science fiction that I've read.

Historia
Do ordinary people have what it takes to survive in a grid-down world? Do you? When the power mysteriously goes out across the country, society does not instantly break down. Transportation does. Most people simply wait for things to get better. Martin thinks trouble is coming. His plan B is to walk the 50 miles from Boston to his home in New Hampshire. His plan B must be revised, however. He did not plan on meeting Susan.

It's not bad
Revisado: 06-09-23
I've had the fortune of reading and listening to some great books, I would not place this book in that category, but it's not bad in any way. The performance is decent although I had a bit of a hard time distinguishing between the characters at times but there was real effort put into the audio book including sound effects for certain scenes, which I really liked. The story and characters are pretty realistic. However, the problem with realism is that sometimes it's not very interesting or eventful. I think the book leans too much in that direction.
I did enjoy my time with the title and did move onto the next book, which has been more interesting but I now find in book 2 the social dynamics are although realistic,I find somewhat annoying and childish.

Historia
This is more than the story of nuclear conflict. It’s about the devastating effects wrought by nuclear winter. Our possible future is seen through the eyes of the Albright family. Hank Albright, a widower and proprietor of the Driftwood Key Inn, is the epitome of the laid-back islander inhabiting the Keys. His brother, Mike, is a homicide detective for the Monroe County Sheriff’s department. Along with his wife, Jessica, a paramedic and member of the sheriff’s department's water emergency team, they become involved in the investigation of a sadistic serial killer.

Half a book, chopped into 5 short parts. But okay.
Revisado: 03-23-22
This is a review of the 5 part book series as a whole and is spoiler free
the biggest disappointment was in the title of this series. nuclear winter played very little part in the story which takes place during the first month of what is described as at least a 10 year process that gets worse over time.
I would have liked to see time unfold with the very likeable characters in the story.
The next issue I have is with the accuracy of how fallout works. I found the explanations and specific events involving characters near the blast of a ground destination of a nuclear warhead hard to believe was well researched. there was no explanation of wind direction or range of radioactive fallout however references are made to the air quality that contained fallout are present which if was radioactive would have very likely resulted in sickness or death.
I did like the characters and their journeys. I think the end of the series was very premature with many things left unanswered and now makes me wonder why they were ever even brought up.
I dont regret listening to the books but I will likely avoid titles by the same author. who seemed to take half a book and choped it into 5 short parts.
as for the performance, many of the characters are older and so having an older voice actor was reasonable choice. however his range of voices seems low and at times I got annoyed with what I can only describe as shakey voice and some whistling in S's. I got used to it and I won't say it was a bad job because the narrator did have good emotion and presence.

Historia
This is how the world ends. Not with a bang, but with many nuclear bombs detonated around the planet. It was no longer a topic of conversation around the dinner table as in years past. Nobody was prepared, including the world's governments. Yet the threat was always real, and the devastation was predictable. The damage was incalculable. Millions died at the points of impact. Nuclear winter spread across the globe. A rapidly cooling climate shocked humanity and all living things...to their death.

Historia
Nuclear Winter enveloped the planet with its relentless barrage of dark, sooty air. With each passing day, more and more people died. In a desperate attempt to give people a chance to survive, some government leaders chose to marshal the assets of their community. It was a polite way of saying take from those who have and give to those who have not.
