Historia
How do we talk about bias? How do we address racial disparities and inequities? What role do our institutions play in creating, maintaining, and magnifying those inequities? What role do we play? With a perspective that is at once scientific, investigative, and informed by personal experience, Dr. Jennifer Eberhardt offers us the language and courage we need to face one of the biggest and most troubling issues of our time. She exposes racial bias at all levels of society - in our neighborhoods, schools, workplaces, and criminal justice system.

Historia
Born to survivalists in the mountains of Idaho, Tara Westover was seventeen the first time she set foot in a classroom. Her family was so isolated from mainstream society that there was no one to ensure the children received an education, and no one to intervene when one of Tara’s older brothers became violent. When another brother got himself into college, Tara decided to try a new kind of life. Her quest for knowledge transformed her, taking her over oceans and across continents, to Harvard and to Cambridge University.

Such a needed portrayal of the reality of many
Revisado: 11-11-18
This book is a great portrayal of the emotional and psychological battles that happen in familial cycles and the scary sides of extremist faith, ignorance, lack of education, and a very limited worldview. At a time when we want freedom of religion, it shows how maybe we need need to do better to defend the other rights of children and what it means to live in the land of the free. I relate on so many levels with this story. Mine was not as extreme, but there were abuses, being shunned with more education and changing my perspective on religion, politics, and humanity. I went through a similar journey and couldn't be happier to be past much of it. It does sadden me that sometimes family has to be left behind for survival, to free ourself from toxicity. We can love, but do not have to accept abuse, manipulation, and horror in exchange for it.

Historia
In this award-winning Audible Studios production, Trevor Noah tells his wild coming-of-age tale during the twilight of apartheid in South Africa. It’s a story that begins with his mother throwing him from a moving van to save him from a potentially fatal dispute with gangsters, then follows the budding comedian’s path to self-discovery through episodes both poignant and comical.

Best I've listened to .... and I have a mad crush
Revisado: 02-17-17
I loved this book. I learned about a different culture, history, about resilience, etc. I'm so glad I got this as an audio book. hearing Trevor share his story, in his own voice, it couldn't have been any better. My kids and I actually sat in the car, in our garage for 30 minutes one day because we were so caught up in the chapter we had been listening to on our drive home. I highly recommend this book and am now a huge fan. I now DVR the Daily show and have begun looking for more of Trevor's work. I definitely have a mad crush on him now. haha
