Restart your learning rut!
Revisado: 03-15-25
I chose this book in an audio format because the material is dry but I have some skills I'm trying to develop and I have hit a plateau.
The author gave me fresh new ideas and even addresses some of experiences I have had along with simple methods to get past my ruts.
He also sparked my interest in a few methods that I did not know existed.
This small book has a lot to give. it is well worth your time.

Historia
Originally written for the pulp magazines of the 1920s and '30s, H. P. Lovecraft's astonishing tales blend elements of horror, science fiction, and cosmic terror that are as powerful today as they were when first published. This tome brings together all of Lovecraft's harrowing stories, including the complete Cthulhu Mythos cycle, just the way they were when first released.

The storylines. I am an old fan. They are simple and that adds to the terror.
Revisado: 02-03-25
I have been a fan for about 50 years. What is being told comes, unfiltered, from the mind of a recluse from a not so distant past. His stories are often ethereal and dreamlike. The terror comes equally from what the protagonist experiences as well as from what does not happen. I think of his writing as a walk with someone who feels the yawning vertigo of madness on his other side as we walk and he tells his tales. These stories should have all been done in the 40s as a form of film noir. They are old school deliciously scary.

Historia
Miles “Shrug” Lindstrom received a quest years ago. He was the only person who could see the window, and in addition to the quest, he could also see a countdown to the end of the world. Part of him was hoping that he was just insane and had been hallucinating when he first started seeing the window. Then again, if the quest was just his imagination, he was going to be massively in debt with a rental full of useless junk. But when the countdown finally stops, what happens is nothing like he could have imagined.

Changes.....
Revisado: 10-05-24
I have read since book one. The story and characters have matured but since the Harlequinn buyout you can tell the stories are different. The formula has begun to show through in the story lines. Ryan and Christy's dreams are getting repeated adnauseum. This one carried the sweet taint of a romance editor.

From Mike Talbot's journal: "The End...has come and gone. This is the new beginning, the new world order and it sucks. The end for humanity came the moment the US government sent out the infected flu shots. My name is Michael Talbot and this is my journal. I'm writing this because no one's tomorrow is guaranteed, and I have to leave something behind to those who may follow."

Good yarn around wholesome family strife in an apocalypse
Revisado: 06-19-24
The energy in the first three or four books is great. The plot keeps getting a little more complex, then the tone changed. It became predictable and the conflict was no longer my cup of tea. By book 7 I was ready to move on. Great yarn for a long road trip.

Professional killers with the souls of artists, would-be theater directors turned Kremlin puppet-masters, suicidal supermodels, Hell's Angels who hallucinate themselves as holy warriors, and oligarch revolutionaries: welcome to the glittering, surreal heart of 21st-century Russia. It is a world erupting with new money and new power, changing so fast it breaks all sense of reality, home to a form of dictatorship far subtler than 20th century strains, that is rapidly rising to challenge the West.

Russia is not the devil we all think we know.
Revisado: 05-18-24
I was wrapped up in his complex portrayal of the use of media and the dectralization (yes I chose that word) of power. It was at the same time relieving to see that the current leader is not as omnipotent as we think yet the evolving culture is scary. It comes across as jaded, materialistic, corrupt, and cannibalistic. This is a riveting and complex read.
