Historia
Based on 20 years of investigative reporting and interviews with 100 practicing physicians who embrace the keto lifetstyle as the best prescription for their patients' health, Taubes' book puts the ketogenic diet movement in the necessary historical and scientific perspective. It makes clear the vital misconceptions in how we've come to think about obesity and diet (no, people do not become fat simply because they eat too much; hormones play the critical role) and uses the collected clinical experience of the medical community to provide essential practical advice.

Loved it. Taubes is open about his personal biases, unlike some of his critics, and lays the nuanced subject of LCHF/Keto out in a lucid, detailed yet interesting style that I thoroughly enjoyed. Also particularly well read.

For three years, Detective Jude Fontaine was kept from the outside world. Held in an underground cell, her only contact was with her sadistic captor, and reading his face was her entire existence. Learning his every line, every movement, and every flicker of thought is what kept her alive. After her experience with isolation and torture, she is left with a fierce desire for justice - and a heightened ability to interpret the body language of both the living and the dead.

Excellent
Revisado: 02-04-17
I wasn't sure when I started reading this if the story would be too dark. However, I found that although dark it was really well done. Characters are excellent, plot a bit obvious but still interesting. I will look for more of this author's work.

Revisado: 05-17-16
Would you listen to Gentleman Jole and the Red Queen again? Why?
I have several times.
What other book might you compare Gentleman Jole and the Red Queen to and why?
This is my number 3 book after Civil Campaign and Captain Vorpatril's Alliance. Not as madcap, but definitely satisfying.
What does Grover Gardner bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
Cordelia's Betan voice.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
I did. Loved it.
Any additional comments?
Bujold has several different subseries in this larger series and this is book 3 in one of them. See the comment above.

Historia
Captain Ivan Vorpatril is happy with his relatively uneventful bachelor's life as a staff officer to a Barrayaran admiral. Cousin to imperial troubleshooter Miles Vorkosigan, Ivan is not far down the hereditary list for the emperorship. Thankfully, new heirs have directed that headache elsewhere, leaving Ivan to enjoy his life on Komarr, far from the Byzantine court politics of his home system. But when an old friend in Barrayaran intelligence asks Ivan to protect an attractive young woman who may be on the hit list of a criminal syndicate, his chivalrous nature takes over. It seems danger and adventure have once more found Captain Vorpatril.

OMG! Civil Campaign has a rival for #1 in series
Revisado: 05-17-16
Would you listen to Captain Vorpatril's Alliance again? Why?
I have. Several times. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this.
What other book might you compare Captain Vorpatril's Alliance to and why?
Civil Campaign. For sheer madcap mayhem with wonderful characters. Excellent.
Which character – as performed by Grover Gardner – was your favorite?
This is definitely Ivan's book, but Byerly is a close runner up.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Could not put it down. Stayed up very late.
Any additional comments?
I love this series. Great characters. Twisty plots and lots of action.

Loved, loved, loved this book.
Revisado: 01-29-16
What did you love best about Saturn Run?
This had Sandford's signature smart-a*#ed protagonists and wonderful dialogue with all sorts of twisty parts. Ctein's science was dynamite so that left Sandford to tell the story, which he definitely can do.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Saturn Run?
The twisty bit on the way home. I won't give it away. You'll know when you get there.
What does Eric Conger bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
Pacing. He brings the characters to life and his pacing really matches Sandford's writing.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
Never trust the Chinese. Or the Americans. LOL (Everyone in the book is pretty twisty, ala standard Sandford.)
Any additional comments?
Another great one. ENCORE! ENCORE!

Historia
The first in an all-new futuristic fantasy series from Keri Arthur - the New York Times best-selling author of the Souls of Fire novels. When the bombs that stopped the species war tore holes in the veil between this world and the next, they allowed entry to the Others - demons, wraiths, and death spirits who turned the shadows into their hunting grounds. Now, 100 years later, humans and shifters alike live in artificially lit cities designed to keep the darkness at bay....

Revisado: 01-29-16
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Absolutely recommend. Keri Arthur's best series so far. Try it, Mikey. You'll like it.
Who was your favorite character and why?
Really only one choice - Tiger. She is the main character and really it is her story.
Which character – as performed by Mia Barron – was your favorite?
Same
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Absolutely. Plan to stay up late.
Any additional comments?
I love Keri Arthur and really dug Riley Jensen and the Dark Angels series, but this is the best so far. Very unusual world, interesting heroine, great bad guys. Keri is really growing into her talent.

Brutha is the Chosen One. His god has spoken to him, admittedly while currently in the shape of a tortoise. Brutha is a simple lad. He can't read. He can't write. He's pretty good at growing melons. And his wants are few. He wants to overthrow a huge and corrupt church. He wants to prevent a horribly holy war.

Pratchet at his drolest
Revisado: 05-14-12
Would you listen to Small Gods again? Why?
I have read Small Gods several times. I would listen, again, just as I may read it again.
What other book might you compare Small Gods to and why?
Pyramids by Terry Pratchett. His most popular books take place in Ankh-Morpork, but these "stand-alones" are little gems that really show his power as an author.
Have you listened to any of Nigel Planer’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
I like Nigel Planer's Discworld. To me, he is to Discworld what Jim Dale is to Harry Potter. He hits the right tone and sounds like what I thought the characters should sound like. I read all the books before every listening to any, and was very pleased with Planer.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
Nothing particular. The whole book is great and Brother is a perfect character.
Any additional comments?
This is my favorite Pratchett book.

Non-stop action all the way
Revisado: 05-14-12
Would you consider the audio edition of Poison Flower to be better than the print version?
I love audio and I love print. Can't say for sure which is better.
Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?
This was definitely a rocket ride from the beginning. I don't want to spoil the book for anyone. Jane starts out moving fast, and never slows down.
What about Joyce Bean’s performance did you like?
Joyce is very good in this series and she is Jane's voice that I hear in my head when I re-read the stories.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
I did listen in one sitting. I'm retired and have the time. I stayed up VERY late. It was worth it.
Any additional comments?
If you have never read any other Jane Whitefield books, DO NOT START with this one. It brings in characters and situations from earlier books. As a series reader I loved it, but it would not make sense to someone who wasn't.
Start at the beginning with Vanishing Act and come forward.
