Historia
Annabelle Aster doesn't bow to convention—not even that of space and time—which makes the 1890s Kansas wheat field that has appeared in her modern-day San Francisco garden easy to accept. Even more exciting is Elsbeth, the truculent schoolmarm who sends Annie letters through the mysterious brass mailbox perched on the picket fence that now divides their two worlds. In this unconventional and enchanting tale, Annie and her new neighbor must solve the mystery of what connects them before one of them is convicted of a murder that has yet to happen—and somehow already did.

this is worth the time to listen to. it's unique and worth a credit if they move it off the 'free shelf'.
I don't usually go for time travel, if you don't either, give this one a shot

several stories have loud drinking to set the mood. only bad of you have misophonia.

Historia
They said write what you know so that's what I did. I wrote dirty, I wrote erotic, I wrote the truth. And then they called me a liar. But it's not me who's lying, it's them. Our story isn't for everyone. It's not even for us. So if you're looking for the fairy tale and the stupid prince on his dumb white horse, move along. You've got a hold of the wrong book. This is not your story, this is not your life, and this is not your opportunity to dip your frightened little toe into the dark pool of water and "try new things" and then pull it out and decide... #NotForMe.

not kinky. not really naughty
Revisado: 06-23-19
if you're into vanilla sex and 30 year olds stuck on college angst this books for you. ok maybe that's not fair, there's a little more to it. Also I'm a little tired of characters being unique and creative because they make up stories for strangers. I know the author was trying to use it as something the characters hide behind but it was used more than once. and got boring fast.
I was trying to find out what the book was about before I bought it but no one wants to give spoilers and the description of this book is the description for a book in 'the dirty ones'. if you listen to this book it's roughly about rich society types who include another rich if not so filthy rich person into their circle because they go to school together and survive something tragic. they also work out a decade old mystery. there's no real 'will he/won't he?' and the plot is driven by the mystery and lightly spiced with vanilla sex... yes multiple partners, but rather vanilla. I suppose this is what makes them feel 'dirty'. the author seems to come off as trying to convince the reader that this is all naughty. I found myself not paying attention several times because it was just more rehashing of the same mundane thoughts the characters were having. anyways, I've read worse but do yourself a favor and go read 'the market place'.

Historia
For centuries, the mysterious dark-robed figure has roamed the globe, searching for those whose complicity and cowardice have fed into the rapids of history’s darkest waters - and now it is heading in our direction. It has been years since Helen Franklin left England. In Prague, working as a translator, she has found a home of sorts - or, at least, refuge. That changes when her friend Karel discovers a mysterious letter in the library, a strange confession and a curious warning that speaks of Melmoth the Witness, a dark legend found in obscure fairy tales and antique village lore.

very good. intense
Revisado: 11-25-18
this book is for those who have had to come to terms with what they have done in life. I'm not sure it's for those who have fresh wounds. it is complex and makes you think. now days it's fashionable to make the mythical character either the focus point or to allow for the question of whether or not it only exists in the mind of the main character. Sarah Perry embraces what Melmoth is and tells several stories of what she whitenesses. she raised questions of whether or not to witness is enough in life. sorry for not a well written review but I'm not good typing on my phone.

a wonderful collection of Kate Wilhelm's short fiction. some of which just hint at sci-fi but all have the unexpected. I can see why readers who only read her serial works wouldn't be as interested in these. each is unique.
