Steven Pacey’s narration is better than any movie or TV show — absolutely brilliant. His delivery brings this hilarious fantasy novel to life like nothing else.

The Devils is pure fun from start to finish — sharp wit, perfectly timed humor, and that wonderfully dry, very English deadpan. If you love smart humor, you’ll love The Devils.

All my love goes to Vega (hope I spelled that right!) — the Viking werewolf I couldn’t get enough of her. ❤️🐺

Thankfully, it says “Book 1” — I can't wait for Book 2! 🔥

Sophie is Maeve's boring homeschooled cousin

I hated this book.

Sophie, the protagonist, was painfully overdone—like slam-your-head-into-a-wall overdone. I was raised Catholic, so I get the homeschooled, sheltered angle. But it takes so long for her to wake up that she becomes downright insufferable.

Stop whining. Please.

Everything was overly dramatic. Endless paragraphs about nothing. Just rambling. And this might just be me—but I’m so over zombies. I’ll watch The Last of Us because it’s brilliantly written and acted. But horny zombies? Ridiculous. Want to make a zombie even more repulsive? Make it a rapist. That’s how.

Why did I finish it? Because Maeve Fly blew me away. Maeve wasn’t just a character—she was a universe. Complex, alive, spectacular. Sophie? She’s Maeve’s boring homeschooled cousin who thinks saying “dang” is edgy.

I finished it out of sheer hope it would get better. Spoiler: it didn’t. I ended up skipping ahead and never even finished the last chapter. Also, the whispery audiobook narration was so dang awful (see what I did there).

Have you ever finished a book or a movie at home and wanted to applaud? Like, a big dork, all by yourself in your house—you just want to get up and clap because it was that damn good.

That's exactly how I felt when I finished Wayward. And not just the story—the author's final thoughts at the end of the audiobook were mana to my writer self. Wendig’s reflections on writing were as profound as the story itself.

Forget your favorite genre—romance, dystopian, whatever. If you love a good story, you’ll love Wanderers and Wayward by Chuck Wendig.

Wendig is fast becoming one of my favorite authors. Wanderers is just so good—damn, it’s so good.

The concept isn’t just interesting—it’s absorbing, pulling you in deeper with every chapter. You can’t help but keep turning the pages, needing to know more.

And the dialogue? Smart, real, layered. Wendig nails that subtle kind of character work where every conversation reveals more than what’s being said. It’s not just talk—it’s insight.

Just when you think you know what Wanderers is about, you realize it’s something bigger. It’s a story with depth, layers, and weight.

The moment I finished, I bought book two (Wayward). I’m already diving in—and yeah, I’ll probably read everything Chuck Wendig has written. When I fall for an author, I fall hard.

Also, I LOVE Xe Sands, the narrator. Her voice, like the book, is multilayered and incredibly talented. She brings so much depth to the experience.

Allow me a moment on my soapbox while I preach to the sci-fi masses! The books in the Alien franchise are well-written, highly entertaining, and so much more than just Xenomorphs.

Yes, the Xenomorphs are always the bad guys, but these stories dive deep into the characters—their struggles, survival, and the terrifying reality of trying to survive a Xenomorph (s).

If you love science fiction horror, this is a must-read!

I’m a big fan of Blake Crouch. I first discovered his work through the Pines series (still my favorite).

The premise of Run isn’t groundbreaking—there’s a natural phenomenon, people go crazy and violent, and a family has to flee to survive. It’s a familiar setup, and while the story was engaging, it didn’t offer anything particularly new.

That said, I did appreciate the fast pace. It didn’t drag on, and the action kept me interested. I enjoyed Run, but it didn’t leave a lasting impression.

Little Johnny Wanted to Be an Executioner

Little Johnny Wanted to Be an Executioner Just Like Dad

Executioners are usually just side characters in most stories—the person holding the ax, pulling the lever, or lighting the pyre. But no one really dives into who they are, what they believe, and how they justify their work.

The Faithful Executioner is the biography of Meister Frantz Schmidt of Nuremberg, who served as an executioner for 45 years.

In the 13th century, executioners were trained professionals, working for the city much like a mail carrier. It was a career passed down through "executioner families."

This biography is gruesome, yet fascinating. The level of detail about the methods and reasoning behind each execution kept me hooked. The severity of a crime often determined how brutal the punishment was, and honestly, after reading about some of the crimes committed, I found myself less shocked by the execution methods.

What really stood out, though, was the narrator. His proper English accent recounting these horrific executions gave the whole experience an almost Monty Python-esque dark humor.

If you enjoy history, true crime, or just want to read about one of the most unusual careers in history, The Faithful Executioner is a must-read.

This book had been on my TBR forever, and I’m so glad I finally picked it up! Night Vale, the novel, is based on the popular podcast set in the same mysterious desert town, with its quirky residents and the bizarre, often hilarious events that unfold there.

With its lighthearted tone and dark comedy, Night Vale delivers a comforting mix of oddity and humor. It’s full of laugh-worthy moments and just the right amount of creepiness. If you’re in the mood for something fun with a touch of the eerie, Welcome to Night Vale is the perfect read.

Have you ever read a book that, at the end, made you want to stand up and applaud? If you haven't, The Grace Year will show you exactly why I feel such passion for this well-crafted, engrossing powerhouse of a story.
