Great narration, awful story. I wanted to like this book. I found I couldn’t overlook all of the problems that could have easily been avoided or were a bit far fetched. The narrators voice was the best thing about this audiobook.

I’ll never know if there was a good story hidden in there or not. The simpering voice of the narrator had me turning tail before the first chapter was finished.

I really enjoyed the first two books in this series, HOWEVER…. this one was a struggle!
The story built to multiple climactic moments which simply plateaued and dragged on. It was as if the author didn’t have enough material for a third book and was simply stalling until there was enough “filler” to justify ending it.

There’s a good story in there. But the book does tend to drag in places. This may be a very rare case where the movie is actually better than the book.

“Downton Abbey-like”

This book allows you to step inside the regency era and experience what life would have been like in both the upper, and lower classes. (Think: Downton Abbey).

The romance is unhurried and understated. (Taking a back seat to charming character development and storytelling).

Though predictable (what regency novel isn’t??) I found myself drawn into the story, wholeheartedly liking the characters, and wanting to know more. Will she be discovered? How will she remedy her many, poor, pre-conceived notions?

All in all, I liked it. And, was sad to see it come to an end.

...it never did. A lot of the time I found the text boring, and the characters only partially developed. Too often the author would set the framework for an interesting idea or event and then simply do nothing with it. This book had enough potential to keep me interested but ultimately left me disappointed.
